Paul – We can’t wait to see your car when it’s done. Are you going to take it to any of the Pro-Touring Run Through The …. Events?

      Hey Hotchkis,
Yes, I would like to take it to those events. It would be cool to meet and run with the other members.

Paul – Those Pro-Touring events are great and they run in many parts of the country, so there’s a good chance one will be in your area at some point. Your sweet 2nd gen will fit in perfectly! ;)

Well, I had an interesting day.
I had planned on replacing the trans filter and gasket, then installing the driveshaft and u-joints.
I started by pulling the pan on the trans and finding this clip in the pan.

Spend half the day trying to figure out what it was.
Another member, Chevelle598bb, told me it was the speedo gear clip. But there was no way it could have come off and found it's way into the pan.
So I end up having to take off the tail shaft (which the person who rebuilt the trans had used locktite on the bolts and I had to use a breaker bar to get them off)
to see if the clip had indeed been left out.

Again guided by Chevelle598bb, I found that there was no clip on the speedo gear and it was indeed the clip in the pan.
While putting the trans together they must have left the clip on the valve body and forgot to install, then just bolted on the pan.
This was Chevelle598bb's assumption of what had been done. Sounds good to me.
Glad I decided to put a new filter in. Got it all put together the right way with the help of Chevelle598bb.
      Thanks again.

Never got the drive shaft or u-joints in.
      Maybe tomorrow.

Finally got a chance to work on the Camaro today.
Went to Pep Boys to get u-joint bolts and straps only to have the parts guy tell me they don't carry them.
I told him "Yes you do." and then had to show him how to look it up in their computer. Maybe, I should get a part time job there.
So then, got the drive shaft in and started to wire the shifter up.
This shifter has more wiring than any shifter I have ever seen.
Not sure about how to wire in the nuetral safety switch relay, so I will call Lokar on tue to finish it up.

I get such a thrill at seeing the UPS or Fed-Ex truck pull up to the house.
Today I got more goodies from Hotchkis.
Front springs and tie rods sleeves.

Well finally got to the garage today to install the center console.
Not a bad result for my first time welding, metal shaping, and upolstering from scratch.
Would definitly do some things differently but that's for next time.
      Love the shifter & bezel.

      Got my mockup tires in.
Big thanks to Bret & Greg over at ridetech for putting up all their old testing tires for sale.
Picked them up for $20 a piece. Wasn't sure what size I wanted to go with but now I know.
These are BFG KDW 275/35/18's and I think I will go with 285/40/18 for the rear and 245/40/18 for the front.
Now I just have to find a set of wheels that I like.

      Hey Sean,
Thanks, I would love to run the 275's on the front.
I think for the street though, I will run 255's up front and 285's for the rear.
I plan on using the Camaro almost everyday. Then I can start work on my Mustang(next project).

Now I just have to find a set of wheels that I like.
a 285/40 will be a tall tire. 27" tall in fact, and about 1.25" taller than the fronts. This will add approximately .625" to the final rear height of the car. To keep the car somewhat level in stance, you'll have to compensate for that. I think I remember reading you ordered a 2" drop in the front and 1.5" drop in the rear. Jeg's carries a wide range of lowering blocks you can use to dial in the final stance. I'd consider running a 35 series side wall or shorter to keep the overall wheel height down in the rear. This will not only help out with final stance, but a shorter wheel improves overall gearing too.

Last thing to consider is rim width for that 285. You might not find a rim you like available in a 9.5" wide rim. You might have to jump up to a 10" wide rim. Now rim backspacing becomes critical and a mini-tub might be needed depending on how low you want the rear to sit.

What i've found out with mine is that the front is in fact 3/4" higher by nature and the 27" in the rear would work perfect.
