      Ty,

Hung out with Eric Lister this weekend. He used to work for Ironworks, now with MER racing in Texas. Nice kid. Hellofa mechanic.

All sorts of bad ass metal working has been going on at Ironworks. This bad boy has been getting all the attention:

That's a 48 truck parked next to a much more modified 48 truck. The amount of metal work and details on it are insane. I'm impressed as hell every time I see it and I'll wait patiently until Brysen can begin his very skilled craft on my fenders and quarter panels. I will eventually run out of money, but I think my deposit will cover the car being set down on its own wheels and tires, with a widebody treatment, full welded chassis, floor, firewalls, and the radiator, fuel cell, and interior items (Seats, column/wheel, pedals) mounted and ready to deliver.

      So for now I wait.

Rodger teased me with 3 pictures today. Progress will come faster in the next month but we've been debating over the widebody for a while now. Do we add very obvious flares? Do we widen the car? I spoke to John McBride about this and he sketched out some ideas; I had a hard time picking any of them and ultimately picked none of them. While the flares in my head would be as amazing as the ones on the Porsche GT3R Hybrid (Google image THAT car.) when seen on paper it just didn't make me fall in love.

Starting sketch (based off my old black 68 Camaro) with factory track width:

      Flare concept number one:

      Flare concept 2 and 2A:

So we decided after all the back and forth, all the idea and reference material we are just going to wide body the car vs flare the wheel wells.

Rodger had the boys get out the sander and cut off wheel.

Then they cut out the 'eyebrow' and placed it where it needs to be to clear the meats.

A few more cuts and then lots of patching, metal working, and grinding and we will be able to set it down on all 4 wheels for the first time in 10 years. I need to get my Sparco seats and Woodward column so that we can position me in the car and then the last of the floor/firewall can be built. I hope to have it a roller by spring.

I can't see that big a difference, but I would go with 1 just because it has a more integrated look.

looks great tyler, good choice on the wide body, you can get more usable tire space that way. Although 2 and 2a are very nice.

More updates. Remember- I did not choose any of the renderings to base the wide body off of. Ultimately I didn't fall in love with any of them, so we are doing a combo of a stretch with a flare. Think of a combo of the way the SCAR camaro was done with a bit of the Gulf Camaro.

Here is the car getting mocked up with flares only; we will be cutting the fenders and quarters much more to reduce the flare size and make it have more of a 'designed' look vs 1971 flares. NOTE: These are Photobucket hosted, so if you see a red X the site is blocked or we exceeded bandwidth (not likely.)

That looks really good- Will the car be any lower, or is that ride height? I remember it being down more.

I'm digging the "camo" paint on the front and rear.

im just not a fan of flairs. id say go straight widebody. cut iut straight down the middle, add 4 inches of metal, and put it back together. sure, its more work, but then.....

other than that, the car is looking great, with some neat details in the fab work.

I wish it was really just that simple. The chassis is already mated to the car, so this option is not even possible this late in the game, not to mention custom front and rear glass and all the other items that need to be stretched (like grill/trim/etc.)

      Tyler, that looks awesome!

Is there a way you could get a shot of the templates laying flat on the ground? I am doing this exact thing to my Nova, and would love to get an idea for the shape on the templates.

Looking good Tyler. Taking a more subtle approach, widening vs. big ol' flares, will in the long run work out better.
