I just put a watts link in under my dart and I ran a bar between the frame rails to mount the brackets This would work for coil over mounts in your duster. I'm still running the leaf springs ATM so I haven't done this but it's a tried and true method.

Bryce, I noticed you used a clamp system to mount your suspension brackets on the rear axle. I would assume you are quite comfortable with this setup, but I'm curious as to how secure they are compared to welding. Perhaps a better question would be "how much abuse would it take to make the clamps slip?".

That is a modified TCI piece. I put on the shock mounts. They are 4" travel shocks. I have 7" of travel in the front.

No issue with angling the shocks in board it will add a little more roll stiffness.

Post up a link to your watts setup!

I have used those brackets on many stock cars. Never had one move using it for a panhard bar mount without welding it. We always put a short weld on the top spring mount (about 1/2 inch on each side) and never had a problem. We ran 3000 pound cars on soft 10 inch slicks with 500 hp. We did leave the mounts unwelded when shaking down a new car and never saw one move. We used chalk marks to verify nothing moved. The key is keeping an air gap between the two halves of the mount so it gets good clamping force. The reason we welded the mounts was to make sure nothing moved during "racing incidents" on the track.

If you look at this picture you can see the 1/2-20 bolt that is threaded into the 3/16 thick housing. This is used to prevent rotation. The bolt is good to 18,000 lbs of shear load and I have one on each side. I dont think I will ever have an issue. I ran this same setup when I had leaf springs. I never had an issue.

      Scott,

Thank you for the confidence builder. I did some calculations using the clamping force and the force of friction to calculate the force required to rotate the clamp. I remember not being happy with my factor of safety due to the fact I had a painted housing. Paint on paint has a coeeficient of friction around .1. Steel on steel is closer to .3.

      Bryce,

You have nothing to worry about. Because we always welded the spring brackets we never had the 1/2-20 bolts for the shake down runs. Our housings were always painted too.

I've been reviewing this thread, a fine, fine build. I've saved many of your watts link pictures as reference for my car.

As I was watching this video and playing with some settings in another program, I discovered (in Windows 7 anyway), that if you hold down the ctrl-alt-arrow keys, you can rotate the entire screen. Could also be a function of the video card drivers too, so your YMMV. Anyway, the video is great, even better right side up (even though everything else on my computer was upside down).

Cool, I will try that on my windows 7 computer. The XP maxhine I am on now does not have that feature.

Thanks, I am glad my thread could help your project.

I would be very interested in seeing your Watts set-up as well. The top spring mount isn't my problem. As you mentioned I am going to remove the stock sheetmetal piece and do tubing, though I have considered just reinforcing it and using the stock mounting locations.

I know that, But my lower mounts are slightly different then yours. So the extra side load could cause issues.

      Cool congratulations Bryce.
