The new transmission just came in for the car. Never driven one of these clutchless transmissions before, but I can't wait to bang some gears. I think I'll miss the overdrive though.

I probably missed this earlier, but what kind of transmission did you get?

Its a Tex 101A that came out of Childress racing. The TKO that was in my car was on loan from my Camaro.

Great choice for the transmission Ron. You should have had them setup the trans to have a bearing retainer with a snout on it. What kind of throw out bearing arrangement are you using?

      Cool Ron!

I tried to find some info on it to educate myself, is it the 4 spd or 5spd? Is this one of the boxes you use the clutch for first gear and pound the rest? Are you going to have to change you rear end gearing?

Yes Andrew I do have to change the nose. I'm running a hydraulic set up for a Muncie. It is a 4 speed Robert, use clutch for first and bang the rest. The gearing is identical to mine now, minus the 5th gear. I'm hoping to get it in next weekend if the new nose comes in.

I also got some ZR1 wheel bearings, and LG Motorsports brake ducts for the front. Getting her dialed for RTTS

Sweet! I have always wanted to try one like that. Should make the car a lot of fun, not that it hasn't been the entire time lol.

You know you can't shift without the clutch and be at WOT, right? The input shaft needs to be unloaded in order to pull the transmission out of one gear and into the next. If the input is not unloaded momentarily, you will break something. You can unload the input shaft in one of two ways; either quickly lift off the throttle or tap the clutch. For downshifting you always want to use the clutch.

      Alright Ron,
I spent an hour this morning reading and looking at the first twelve pages of the thread. Awesome build, but dang I didn't have time to read all the pages! Maybe I will space the reading out over many days at the firehouse so our car projects don't fall behind. I need a neighbor like you!

To add to what Andrew said... here is a completely bad ass 1969 Mustang with a clutchless 4 speed... I'm pretty sure you become one step closer to Chuck Norris driving something like this...total man'ly gearbox.... lol

Yeah Andrew, I knew you had to unload the transmission, but it still should be a learning experience.

and, Yeah Tommy this is the thread that never ends. I probably should have started a new thread once the car was built and the upgrades started happening. I just figured all the pics might help somene else doing something similar, I sure love the build pics.

I would love to run that track sometime. I don't think that driver ever touched the brake pedal with his right foot. He must have a problem with pad knock back, he did a small brake pump/tap each time before getting on the brakes.

Great video. That Mustang definitely needed more power. The Vette was just walking away in the straights.

I was thinking the same thing Andrew. Thought that Mustang might need an LS7 or something LOL, that Vette was flying. Didn't you run a Tex in your Mazda, way back when? How did you like it?

I ran a Liberty faceplated T56 in the RX7. I loved it. If G-Force GF5Rs weren't $5800, I would have that transmission in my GTO and swap the rear gear to a 2.73.
