      69 Firebird Build

I finally have a little progress worthy of an update.

...GW upper and lowers, QA1 coilovers, and Wilwood 10.75" rotors.

I get the shell back next week, Tony at www.musclecarmetal.com is doing his thing to my shell (it will be new front to back).

Engine is already done (455 bored .030 with 525 hp 550 ft lbs):

....Loooong way to go, but I am having fun!

Thanks for the compliments guys, I am pretty excited that I am starting to make some progress. I am going to "visit" the shell today to check on the progress. I believe he is a little behind, but he is supposed to have the shell totally torn down to the skeleton (roof support structure). The skeleton goes to the blaster to be media blasted and then primed on Monday. "Supposed" to have the shell back next weekend. It takes him 40-50 hours to rebuild an entire shell.

Paint will be '69 Trans Am paint scheme (I have all of the T/A body stuff: hood, rear wing, fender scoops) but not the traditional white/blue. Exterior color will be applied to the firewall, inner fenders, and rad support. The color combo will be 1 of the below:

...which do you guys prefer? I am leaning towards the platinum/silver combo (the Ford GT).

For wheels I am considering 17" up front and 18" in the rear. Not sure of which wheel yet, but I want something that looks more traditional with a black center.

Your guys thoughts on colors and wheels would be appreciated. I need to make both of these decisions soon.

I stopped-in to see the progress and Tony is in the final stages of stripping the shell down to the internal "skeleton." It will actually be torn down a bit further than these pics show (believe it or not!). Tony says it will be totally reassembled by next Sunday 11/19!

Home to a rodent at one point...

What used to be my shell (which about makes me throw up seeing it in a heap)...

...The skeletion will go to the media blasters tomorrow to be blasted and zinc primed...which should give it another 37 years of life.

I HAVE to make some time to go meet Tony. I need some sheetmetal and I would like to talk to him about it. Keep up the good work.

You definitely should, you are close by! He has the cheapest prices on body panels plus seeing one of his shells in person will amaze you. Take my word for it, my friends were stunned when they saw one of his '69 Camaro shells he was shipping to Georgia a few weeks ago. at the moment he has 5 Camaro and Firebird carcasses laying around waiting to be "reborn."

If you stop by next weekend, you should see mine just about done!

Looks like you are rally doing it up right!. I have to say I like the Ford GT colors as well. I think that will look great with TA stripes. There is a company making Billet over sized Rally II wheels that may look good on your car here is a link

One other thing I have seen on a 69 is painting the front bumper body color I think it really adds to the look of the car

I would call his 800 number if you already know what you want and you just want to place an order. You will typically get his vmail or his sister will answer (his sister runs the parts reselling portion of the business).

If you want to speak directly with Tony, I would call his direct line 603-247-1570 which I think is actually his cell phone (I feel ok about posting this number as it is listed on his Business Card). I get him about 90% of the time and I only call him on this line. Also, his direct email address is also [email protected]
