Now THATS funny Doober! It does look like a fairmont with the grill painted like that. I painted the original grill the same way back in the mid 90's the first time I painted the car. Good thing I didn't put the wide wheelwell moldings back on this time!

I was curious how much work was involved, did you gain any clearance?

The inner support doesn't allow more clearance in the center for a NA car. It appears the inner structure was designed to give more clearance for turbo tubing that was offset toward the drivers side. I just put the hood on because I thought it'd look cool and I think the stock hood looks too much lower than the trunk on the bu's for a flat hood (IMO) when you look at the car from the side. When I put a real engine in it to replace the 229 I may cut out some of the inner structure if more clearance is needed for the air cleaner.

Just so you know, the hood is not a simple bolt on. The body lines in the Buick hood don't line up with the header. The rear corners of the hood need to be massaged to line up with the Malibu fenders at the cowl. There's also a height difference between the header and the Buick hood and the leading edge of the hood is set back about 1/4" compared with a Malibu. So some creative, artistic type bodywork needs to be done to the header to build it up to the hood at the gap, mold in the body lines, and extend it back toward the hood to narrow the gap.

Yup, a bud parked next to me at work one day with his Turbo Regal and when I looked at the cars side by side it hit me. So I grabbed a tape measure and measured them both. Decided to take a chance and buy a hood figuring I could resell it if I decided it was going to be too much of a project.

It doesn't look like there's a whole lot of difference in the two, do you have any pictures before/during?

Thanks! and yes they are the Centerline Matrix. They have been on the car since 2003. They look cool and I haven't seen them on any other vehicle in my area.

      My 540cid turbo Malibu project

Here's my little turbo project. KeWl...first post here :-) A lot left to do on it, but its getting done slowly but surely. Decided to put a little time into an 81 trans am project at the moment, so the malibu is getting minimal time for the past month

Very impressed with this board... a huge support group and knowledge base here!

      Thanks,

      William
