Maybe that will change. There are beginning to be more and more high-end parts availability, since more folks are paying attention to AMC performance. Technically, the cars dont have to make excusses to anyone, although they have had a bad rap for many years from the Rambler days image. The Javelins, AMXs, and Rebels were pretty good looking as compared to thier competition. Sounds like Wilwood is doing hi-po brake systems in the near future, Milodon is making some cool parts, Edelbrock makes modern design aluminum heads/manifolds, etc., etc.. Indy Heads has been making 500 ci aluminum blocks and heads for quite a while too.

just perfect. I'm glad there are some nice Javelins getting noticed. in my not-so-humble opinion, these cars are LONG overdue for some attention. they're just as good looking, if not better looking than others of the era, and actually handle pretty well even in stock form.

The pictures of the car when I started are deceiving. I had to replace the quarters, the engine bay was a disaster, and the mechanicals and interior were shot. The car had a 304 in it. It had a Torqueflight 727, which was the only redeeming thing that I had to work with. AMC used Chrysler 727s from 1972 and up, although they had a different case that bolted up to the AMC engine. You can go to my hobby website and see a few pictures of the car as I went through the project. coloradoamx.com I was really thinking of doing the yellow, then at the last minute I switched to the silver, and boy, am I glad I did. I friend gave me lots of advice in getting the wheels and stance right. I suppose any car can look goofy if they dont have the right wheels and stance, but this particular body style is downright ugly if it's not set up right. In fact VERY few owners of these cars get it right. If you are going for the pro-touring look and stance, this car begs for that attitude. I had this picture in my head of the silver and billet in the engine bay. I cant remember if I posted any pictures of the engine, so here goes...

Yes they do handle very well in stock form! Mark Donohue tweaked his own personal '71 AMX and pulled some amazing numbers on the skidpad even with bias ply tires of the day.

I want it to handle like its on rails with plenty of power to spare. The 401s seem a little hard to come by. Any suggestions on how to find Total Control type rearend setup and a used 401 would be helpful.

I can only dream that my car comes out half as beautiful as yours.

I want it to handle like its on rails with plenty of power to spare. The 401s seem a little hard to come by. Any suggestions on how to find Total Control type rearend setup and a used 401 would be helpful.

You can make plenty of power with a well built 360.... over 400 HP. The key is in compression, the heads and camshaft choice. Tweak the heads first and get flow numbers, then talk to people about a cam to match the heads.

I have about 420 HP with 9.2:1 compression on pump gas.

For my friend in Colorado and for the other AMC fans out there, Milodon has just their new retooled Road Racing Pan for AMC engines that feature 5 trap doors with either internal or external oiling! Looks Perfect!

Wow!!!! What a great looking piece. This may be the best roadrace pan made for AMC engines, whether you are a Jeep guy or building an AMC. The only options out there have been Canton, which leaves a LOT to be desired, especially if you are doing the external pick-up, or the Aviaid pan, which is very expensive and only available with LONG lead time.

Congratulations to Coloradoamx at the Rocky Mountain Rod & Custom Show this weekend where his "Silver Bullet" and "The Crush" took 2nd and 3rd place in a sea of Camaros, Mustangs etc. (No Offense)! These cars are well deserving of some recognition.

Wow! Very nice clean looking Javelins. Impressive work!

For AMC oil pans, Armando's also makes them - wet sump, dry sump, road race or drag ... pretty much anything you want. Got one with dual external pickups, diamond shaped sump box with trap doors and baffles, bolt-on windage tray over sump with scrapers, full length scraper, temp.sensor bung, 8 1/4" deep, rated max 10 quart system capacity. Shipped just over a week after order and less expensive than the Aviaid. The Milodon pan looks to be very nicely built and finished and a bit shallower for more ground clearance.

Just thought I'd let any AMC'ers know that Wilwood 4 wheel disc brake kits for AMC's are about done. They will do an installation and test next week and they should be on the shelves in about a month.

I haven't had time to be much on here lately so I just saw your post. REALLY cool and well styled and executed. Super clean Euro style/color and I love the wheels. I have been looking for proper 17" Mini-lite look-a-likes that had a little deep dish and these are on the shopping list now. Thanks!
