I'm definitely not an expert on rearends (no jabs needed), but I would vote 8.5 for the same reasons. We had planned to run one in Sam's 67 that we're building but found a 12 bolt first. My second choice would be a 12 bolt before a nine inch. We have been running a 12 bolt in our 66 for three years with Moser C-clip axles, Eaton posi and Richmond gear with absolutely no issues. We taking it out right now to replace the axle bearings just for good measure and to add a -8 AN bung for a better vent.
