Well the factory tanks were 10 quart I beleive. Everyone is getting away from them because they weren't big enough, and there have been some starving issues with the ZO6's from what I have read.

The Coleman tank in the picture is 3 gallon, 15" tall by about 9" in diameter. most of the smaller tanks are 6" in diameter but are 24" tall. The short nature of this car prohibits use of any tank over 18". It would either pop out the hood or scrape the ground. I was thinking of cutting into the firewall on the pass. side, and fitting it in there, but it it be a pain to drain, fill and clean, not to mention the fact that it would roast your nuggets in the summer time.

Will it go in the trunk?...or is that too far away for the pump to handle?...just thinking about weight distibution.

Well I figured out how to make the tank fit ,change everything. It does seem the round tanks are the way to go, and I got that one off ebay for $40. The problem was the roll bar down bars didn't leave room any where for that tank.

I desided to change all the down bars, and recess the tank into the firewall. I'm going to arrange the bars so that I can eliminate the core support all together, should save at least 100 lbs. I figure the tank, oil, and lines are probably 60 lbs.,so I should still be able to shed a few lbs.

Worked out pretty well, the tank fit good in that location, the fitting point right where I need them, and the fill, dip stick and drain are still easily accessible. I will tig a fin on each side of the tank, and bolt it directly to the firewall.

Here are some pics of the firewall being butchered. Its funny I watch Rupps build thread all the time, and his Penny pics never look so primal. Ron

HAHA. Primal is a good choice of words Ron. Love it though. I think Rupp has fairies work on his car. They just sprinkle a little dust and voila.

Primal or not, this is the best build I've seen. Great work with everything, from the beginning.

You wanted to re-do some of that stuff anyway

I figured you would have put it in the trunk with an aux. pump.

Much less complication putting it where you did. I assume that you are going back with Chrome Molly?

What kind of time line are you looking at now?

Hoping to have everything on the firewall welded in tonight, have the firewall cleaned up and painted by the weekend, and have all the bars, bent and installed over the weekend. I have most of the chromoly bent already, should be alot cleaner. I think I'm going to make the hood open the other way, do away with those heavy reverse hood hinges, and make it easier to get the hood up the next time its on fire. Getting the engine in and fired is the easy part, ass backwards as usual. Ron

      Excellent job Ron!

      Great craftsmanship and ingenuity.

Are you going to insulate the tank from the header heat or will it be far enough away to not be a problem?

The headers are far enough away that it shouldn't be an issue, but I'm constructing an air diverter to scoop air fom under the car and channel it into the tank area. Trying to keep the passengers feet from getting too warm, and of course keep the tank cool. Ron

A little second skin damplifier pro and some of their heat wave pro will keep the heat off the passengers' toes too. If used sparingly, probably wouldn't weigh but 2-3 lbs. My heels were getting hot through my tennis shoes before, nice and cool now.
