      Angeles Crest Highway Reopens

OK folks the rumors are true...

The Angeles Crest Hwy above LaCanada has finally reopened.

It is a beautiful thing, with a fresh roadway surface, new signs, markings, guard rails and a few new features. These include several new small bridge sections, concrete raised embankments on the shoulder and all new, widened and fully paved pull outs and scenic vista points.

The area of the two big wash outs has some very impressive slope / grade work and fresh new (huge) run off channels and basins.
I will go back with more time and take a closer look at these areas, as the work is amazing.

'03 Mustang Cobra. 480 Hp / 500 Ft-lb to the wheels. Runs 11.57 @ 118 mph 1/4 mile and low 1:30's on the Streets of Willow.

Just my luck. I break my diff and they reopen Angeles Crest.

Can't wait to hit those curves.

We're going to need to plan a ACH outing soon, but our breakfast hangout will have to change. Maybe Mike can make some suggestions on making it a longer drive and having eats somewhere east.

Carl, how many miles is a round trip from here? I would like to join it if it's soon and before I start my intake swap. I better get busy on a front license plate bracket I guess.

Are they open? I thought for sure they must have folded. If they are open, that's great! What that saying about ASSume?

      About 150 miles total Larry.

Sunday was the traditional day. I'm out for next weekend for sure but might be able to make the weekend of the 18-19th. The 19th is Father's Day.

How about we shoot for June 26?

SFAIK, Newcombs has survived. I'm up for a run as a passenger (unless anyone wants to run with an old Dodge minivan).

Oh, yes. Anyone going up the Crest should be ultra-legal.

I was up there with my dog on Sunday, and the first stretch from La Canada to the ANF looked like a demonstration project for Road Builders Digest - it was beautiful, nice built up berms along almost the eintire stretch, new lines, newly oiled, etc. The second passing lane by the station at the bottom of the hill is gone, and the visuals are all wrong because of the fire, but the road itself is in great shape (and heavily patrolled).

So, the drug is more potent now?

edit: as long as my passenger seat is open, your welcome to it Mike (or anyone else for that matter).

Do you still believe in all the things that you stood by before? Are you out there on the front lines, or at home keeping score?
Do you care to be the layer of the bricks that seal your fate? Would you rather be the architect of what we might create?
