Ended up a little too inebriated from the night before to manage to wake up early enough. Sorry I missed it.

      Who ate the Burrito?!

I would have tried it but they don't have it any longer. I wonder if it's under new ownership?

There's hardly anything on the breakfast menu compared to before. However, the staff is pretty entertaining. Jon should comment on that since he had more interaction.

The drive is a totally different experience. It's weird to see so much since most of the trees are gone or have no growth.

Ok, so we get to Newcombs around 7:20. Matt, my cousin Eric, and Myself go inside to secure seating for the group. For those of you that don't know, Newcombs is basically a big room with a walll dividing the bar area and the dining room. The room with all of the tables has the lights turned off, and we ask the next person we see about getting seating for 10; this is where it gets good. Turns out the gent we asked about seating us was/is a very interesting individual; kind of a shady looking character, looks like he worked out in prison. Once we got the seating arrangements made and the ambient lights turned on, the CG (crazy guy) sees that Eric has tattoos:

CG: "Oh man! Let me see your ink"
CG grabs Eric's shirtsleeve and rolls it up to his shoulder before Eric can respond

      Eric: "uh.... OK."

CG: "What does that say... Family?"

      E: "yeah"

CG: "yeah man, Family always comes first"
CG proceeds to lift his undershirt up to his shoulders to show us his belly tats. His main tat that goes across his stomach says "Jasso", but when he lifted up his shirt he rubbed his hand on his stomach and covered the "J", making it "asso", pretty ironic. He inches closer to Eric, sticking his belly out as if he wants him to touch it..

The three of us sit down at the table and he hands us menus; apparently Eric is his new best friend as he opens Eric's menu and begins to suggest what food he likes.

CG "oh man, this is sooo good" pointing to the menu, "oh man, and this is too!" pointing to another item, "oh, but, you guys are prolly here for brefest huh?.. soo uh wheres brefest?... oh here it is!". Now mind you, the menu is only 2 pages, breakfast and lunch... He continues "oh man, you should get the GS sandwhich, but.. but... you gotta get the eggs sunny side up, you know... get 'em ruuunny!"

He then asks us "Hey, can I get you guys some drinks? Like maybe some beers?", the 3 of us look at each other and then back to him, he proceeds "oh man, its too early for beers huh?"

And immediately into "oh man, we had a sweet rave here last night, but the cops shut us down around 10, this place was filled with girls man! All over, girls everywhere! But thats ok, we stuck around till like 11:30 smoking bud, man"

I think at this point the rest of the group comes in. We order a round of waters for the table and CG leaves to get them. The bartender (who's accent had the choppiness of a Hawaiian mixed with the dialect of Boston?) come in saying "man. I dont have a, server yet man, but CG can, take care of you" Great...

Everyone orders their food, and with every order the bartender asks "would, and english muffin, be alright man?" As he is bringing out the food, he puts a plate down in front of Chad that has wheat toast. Chad says he ordered it with an english muffin and BT takes the plate back to the kitchen. Maybe a minute later we hear some raised voices and the BT yells "I don't know, I'm a F**King BARTENDER!" We all look at Chad at this point and say that he needs to eat whatever is on his plate when he brings it out..

We all get our food, and proceed to eat and chat.

Needless to say, it was the best trip to Nowcombs I have had.

Oh, I forgot about when he asked us how old we were!

So CG asked us how old we are, Matt says 27 and Eric and I say 24. CG says "24?! No way man, let me see your I.D.", Eric responds "wait, what, really?", "yea man, let me see it!". Eric pulls his Nevada ID out and hands it to him, "Oh man! Nevada! You from Reno?!", we look at each other quite flabbergasted and Eric says "no man, Vegas, see right here on the ID!". CG then asks Matt and I where we are from and we respond Long Beach, to which he replies "oh man, the Sandy City! There's lots of blacks there, and beaners like me; but don't worry, I won't shoot you, I don't have a gun..."

Oh man, the Bartender, what a guy.

"you know man, I like this coffee we have here. Its dark without being too bitter, you know cause, it sits, we'll not this pot, but usually it sits around for a while and gets really dark and bitter. Yeah, we get this coffee on line, from thecoffee... guys.com, they're over in Jersey."

By the way, all those pretty purple blooms? Poisonous!

      http://www.venturacountytrails.org/N...h/NewsPage.htm

That pretty much explains my "poison oak." I'm sure I touched those plants when the dog and I cut cross-country three weekends ago.

FWIW, there's an Angeles Crest Highway facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/p...y/161411677774
