      V8vw

I am building a tube chassis, 350 powered '69VW Squareback ( station wagen). I have some questions that I hope someone out there can help me with. Number 1. Can someone send me some pics of the 'plumbing" for my heater setup? Number 2. can anyone tell me what an average distance is from the bottom of oil pan to crossmember? Appreciate any help I can get.

I usually aim for 2" clearance between the pan and crossmember with stock style rubber mounts, custom poly mounts can be cut down to and inch to inch and a half, solid mounts theoretically need no clearance.

There are a couple different ways the heater hoses are ran. It depends on the years of the 350's acc. drive. Basically one hose, (the smaller 5/8) goes from the intake manifold front pass side to the heater core. The other hose,(larger 3/4) goews from the top of the water pump to the other heater core fitting. The gap needed for the oil pan can be as little as 1/2 inch if the motor is solid mounted, more if using poly mounts, even more if rubber mounted. hope this helps.

I know,I know. there are a lot of "muscle car" purists out there that can't stand anything but "Detroit Iron". Well, the only thing VW about my project is the body. Engine: Chevy 350 Trannie: GM 700R4 Steering: Mustang II Rear End: Narrowed 9" Ford triangulated 4-bar ...and by the way, it's not a "Bug". It's a station wagen

Thanks. All is in fun. You know, I am 65 years "young" and have always been a car freak. I came home from overseas in 1969 and went to work immediately at a VW dealership as a mechanic. And on and on and on... Built a few Corvair powered bugs, dune buggies and a Ford 302 powered, mid engine VW Bus. Yep, almost everything I have done is VW in one form or another. I am just glad that I am still able to "keep on truckin".

Cool stuff. I dig these little 2 door station wagens. I'd like to do the same thing with a fastback (type 3?).
      Good luck with the build!
