You know what I'd love to see? A World Championship for Time Trial/Lap Battle/Time Attack (I don't care what its called) competition with only a couple different classes (street mod and Unlimited) and run the 5-10 best tracks around the world. I'm very curious to see the AIX and Japanese Unlimiteds go head to head. Would be cool to see. The tracks should have a combination of long/high speed and shorter/technical tracks so the competition pushes the cars in all road racing situations. Fastest Lap wins!

Pit that 800hp turbo AIX Mustang and friends up against the fastest Japanese cars (turbo NSX, EVO, RX7s and Skylines) and through in a McLaren F1 and Saleen S7 just for a fun comparo!

Yeah, those autocrossers are weaksauce! Why can't they race someone around cones instead of the clock. Lame-o's!

Cut the guy some slack. He posts one "lame" thread and the rest of 'em get the automatic

It's good times in here. Honestly though, it does weed out the hosers who aren't into the essence of pro-touring, which opposite to popular belief, I am.

I like the time trial idea for many of us with street-based cars who'd rather not go fender-to-fender. It gives you the opportunity to test your car and your driving skills in a safe environment without worrying about hitting anyone else, or vice versa. I'm down with that. Yes- it's bigger autocross, and that's all good to me. I like passing guys too, but your fastest lap should be the one without any traffic around, and that reflects the quality of the car/driver package in one respect. Granted- passing is an art form at high speed, and I'm all for racing, but I think these time trials surely have their place too.

There you go Scott! I agree. Sure if I made big bucks, I'd love to be a "real race car driver". Not in the cards I guess. So, instead I'll have to be ok with a cool street car that I can enjoy owning and driving and tinkering with.

can someone tell me if there is actually any benefit to THAT much negative camber? seems like you would need a lot of body roll to get the tire back to a normal contact patch, and therefore make it not desirable. ?

I wonder if that blue fox body is a part time drifter setup car? I believe the camera lens that's being used is a wideangle, so that will add some funkyness at the edges of the shot...I don't know...

Too much negative camber has a detrimental impact on braking, and of course will cause uneven tire temps, reduce grip and cause uneven wear. All of which are only important if you are engaged in actually trying to get around the track quickly as opposed to vehicular figure-skating......er...drifting.

I've been to several NASA AI/AIX races and the fox bodies always run a bunch of negative camber.

Unless you have an SLA conversion (Agent-47, Griggs etc) you kinda have to in order to make 'em turn. A bunch though is different from too much.

Back to the Fox bodies: like 'em both! The gunpowder smell of PURPOSE on both of them.
Time trial seems like a good idea. You still get to work the car w/o bumping into others. Way better than parking lot racing in 2nd for sure! Hint hint...

Here's the dominant AI fox body from my region . . . no aggressive negative camber here.

Anyway, time trial events are great. As others have already said, you get to lap a track as quickly as you can/dare but with the possibility of car to car collisions (mostly) removed.

I'd like to eventually run one of the Redline events at Fontana. They've made a muscle car class in that series that the Spectre cars run in sometimes.

I thought about posting a thread a month or so back about this topic. The "super Lap Battle" time attack has rule #5 : "Push rods are not allowed". SuperStreet & Sport Compact Car are the founders of this particular event, and are, as expected, all about the imports. But they still allow the Euro Crowd to compete in the race. Like the JIC Magic USA 1996 Porsche GT2 (boarderline lemans car that caused a big ass upset), GMG Motorsports 2003 Porsche GT2 , and the Trackhq.com/APR Performance 2005 Lotus Elise.

Primedia owns all the publications sponsoring the event, (import tuner, Superstreet, and Eurotuner) as well as most of the muscle and performance magazines you pick up on a monthly basis. I don't see why this could'nt be an event that could annually span and include all it's car magazines. I think it would be very unifieing among the car culture.

I agree Ash. If they want to have some competition and grow the sport of Time Attack, let the pushrod boys play. I guess you can run a newer sohc/dohc Mod Mustang Motor in your pt Ford.
