      Chevelle Wheel question

Ok i posted this same question over at team chevelle and like i figured got flamed for wanting to put 20"s on a chevelle. Let me see what you guys have to say and what will and wont fit.

" I know i am gonna get flammed for this here but i am gonna ask anyway as i am curious. I bought a small hot wheels, actually its a Foose type car the other day and it was a 71 chevelle and it was primer black in color and had what looked like 20"'s on it. It just had a real sinister look. I was wondering if anyone knows what it would take or what the biggest 20" or at least 18" whell i coud stuff under it with no tub work. I have found a car i can get cheap and would primer black it and throw a motor in it and just cruise it.
Just some random thoughts i have been having."

if u put a 20in rim in the back u prolly arnt going to have much side wall for a tire and it will not make the best cruiser unless u are driving on new street. u will feel every bump with a ruber band tire. any ways i dont think a 20in rim will fit in the back with out mods. and if u plan on lowering it(witch i hope u would) i think the rearwheel wells would need to be raised to tuck the 20s.

I just wne through the 17 or 18 deal. I'm happy with the 18s because the tire selection is better.

you can fit the 20's on the big chevelles in the rear, Maybe like a 20x9. Not sure of the offset. To get the slammed look like that foose model looks like, you'll need to do some mods, but they can be done economicaly. Like said above, the ride is not gonna be the greatest Also the rims are scaled way up on those cars, prob like 22-24's in the rear. Could luck and PM me if you want some ideas!

you can fit a 20x10 in the rear with NO mods. I am not sure of the backspacing ( i think 5.75-6.0 but not sure) but there are quite a few that have done this already.

Cats still acting like 20s are big...hahahah get real people!!Those A/Gbody cars from that time look sweet on 20s...Also enough with the misconception of ride concerns with low profiles..tires have come a long way...

      18's in front 4.5 backspacing - 235.45.18

      20's in back 5.5 backspacing - 275.35.20

No mini tub required. Ask me how I know?

Since the thread is started anyway, I am looking at trying to stuff some 305/45-18 Nitto Drag Radials under a non tubbed 70 Chevelle. Any suggestions on wheel b/s, I am planning on 10inch wide. I am thinking maybe the same as Roger has mentioned in the previous post, 5.5?

I'm running a Nitto 295/45-18 on 18x9.5 wheel presently setup with 5 3/8" rear spacing on a 68 Chevelle with a stock width Moser 9" Ford rearend using drum brakes for now.
There's no grinding, wheel lip rolling, or notching the rails. I would need a 5 5/8" rear spacing running disc brakes most likely depending on how thick the rotor is. Measure it with a mock up wheel with the tire you desire to use for sure Bill.

Thanks Clint. I was measuring some today and it looks like I have right at 13" to work with, so I can get a decent tire under it without doing a lot of tubbing, etc.

      20's on 70 SS

Pics of my 70 SS 396 Chevelle with rear 20's. I went with a 20x9.5 with 4.5 bs and a 275 x 35zr x 20. I bought these for mock up in the early stages of the build. I have the hotchkis lowering springs but would like to drop it a half or even an inch more to tuck up in the wheel well. Recently my plans have changed with the build and like you I will probably go with a 19 or 20 with a 10 inch wide wheel and the widest tire I can fit without rubbing. With the 20 x 9.5's I still have a good inch and a half before hitting frame. I drive my cars and with 3 little ones and the wife as passengers I cant deal with rubbing and cutting the side up on expensive tires. Hopefully this helps. My fronts are 18's.

Mr. Howell you need to put a set of those 390/40/17 M & H drag radials on something.. you'd be even more the man! BTW this is FknCrackhead from HPT...

They will fit mine but I've heard the 390/40's aren't much wider than my 335/35 Kumhos.

Bill, try a pair of 18x11's with 6.25" backspace and some 315 tires. On the front, run some 18x9.5's with 5.75" backspace and 275/35 tires. That will fill up the fenderwells.

Clint, Do you know anything about the Nitto 555R 305/45/18 ?
Sounds and looks like a great choice for a 18" drag radial if it will actually hook.

      I doubt 335's will a 67 w/o extensive mods.
