      1969 Firebird Build

This may seem sacrilegious to a few of you guys, but my Dad and I bought a fully restored '69 Firebird as a pro-touring a project. When I was about 11 we bought another Firebird as a project. That ended up going nowhere and is currently sitting outside as a partially sandblasted, stripped out shell on a rotisserie. I am graduating from high school in early June and should have plenty of free time to finish the car by midsummer. Since most of the parts will be bolt-on and all of the bodywork is already done, it should make for an quicker project. We ordered an ExtReme subframe and a bunch of other parts from Speedtech a few weeks ago which just arrived this afternoon. I will uncrate it tomorrow and post some pics. I currently daily a modded CTS-V and want it to have different characteristics than that. I want it to be a big displacement N/A motor compared to the LSA in the V, so I will end up going with the LS7 along with a T56. It should be a fun project.

      My CTS-V for your time

      Uncrated

I uncrated all of my stuff today and I am very happy with it. All of the Speedtech components seem like military grade stuff. Thanks Speedtech

I always recommend that people start with as nice a car as they can afford. If the car has a solid body and a color that you like, that will save you 1-2 years on a project, along with avoiding the drop in motivation that occurs with such delay. Will you be mini-tubbing the car? Seems like the only fab work required here. A bunch of other nice toys in that garage. Any lift in there?

I will be doing mini-tubs and possibly a weld-in roll bar (or bolt in). No lift yet but we should be pouring footings for one this month.

I partially assembled my Speedtech ExtReme subframe this weekend. My initial impressions are that it is extremely high quality and well thought out. It was very easy to assemble so far. I can take more up-close pics if anyone is interested.

We also stripped out the interior in my Dad's Camaro this weekend and put a few hundred pounds of Dynamat Extreme and DynaPad. Sadly, I forgot to take pictures of the process. It has an LS1 in it but all stock suspension. After my car is done, new suspension and wheels for this are next on the list

Last week I finished putting the subframe together and started on the rear end. Ill finish that up this weekend. I threw a set of back wheels from my CTS-V on there while I am waiting for a new front one (Michigan roads). They are 11'' wide with a 305/30/ZR20 P-Zero and though they wouldn't seat over the hubs the track width was still about a 1/2'' narrower than stock and still allowed room for the tires to turn full lock without rubbing on the frame. Time for pics...

I'm going to a track day next weekend at Grattan, so I figured i'd pick up some R888 for the track along with some PSS for the street. For some reason the Pirellis on the back only lasted me 5,000 miles.

Great build, and some good parts there. The new Speedtech frame has been on my wish list since they announced it last year.

Unless I'm seeing it wrong, looks like your frame was built in the future, and brought back by Doc and Marty.

My T56 and McLeod clutch came today.

I've also spent a few days wrapping my CTS-V. I used 3M metallic satin grey

That's very cool you get to work on and own this assortment of cars at such a young age. Most never get opportunities like this unfortunately. Best of luck and hope to see a well performing car finished.

The V has Finspeed F110 wheels, ls9 cam, E85 sensor, ported heads, supercharger pulley, larger heat exchanger, electric exhaust cutouts and a few other things. I also have a set of Kooks long tube headers and header back exhaust sitting on the shelf waiting to get installed.

Here is the dyno sheet. Huge gains from stock.
