Carbon Fiber drive shaft

I want to put a carbon fiber drive shaft in my 67 camaro. does anyone have experience with these? any favorites? any ones to stay away from? thanks.

I had Dynotech Engineering build my carbon fiber half & drive shafts for my C4 Corvette. Dynotech also builds them for the Nascar teams.

Someone on he has a gto with one....Andrew? Maybe.....i really don't know. His was from the driveshaft shop and he has it with Porsche CV joints as opposed to u joints

May I ask why? For the cost of one and I have seen a couple busted ones and the manufacture not cover it, I would stick with a quality aluminum.

If made correct and for the power of the engine vibration is one reason and another is lower reciprocating weight. Oh and because they're cool

And when they DO break it doesn't risk catapulting your car into the air, or busting up your floor, etc.
Same reason you buy an expensive SFI shatterproof bellhousing rather than an aluminum one.

I have used a carbon shaft in my GTO and my 67 Cougar. Both were made by The DriveShaft shop. The GTO uses a CV joint in the front, while the Cougar shaft uses a CV shaft front and rear. They are amazing and I will never run a conventional driveshaft in any of my vehicles again.

any good carbon shaft manufacturer will warranty a shattered fiber shaft. thats part of the cost imo.

I've never broken either.

low 8's on both with slicks and radials.

fiber is safer for the driver. a shattered fiber shaft wont come in to the drivers compartment. a aluminum one can, a steel one will.

You definitely won't have a vibration or a harmonic problem with a carbon fiber shaft and you may gain (maybe not actually gain but, definitely it won't rob you) some horsepower.

quick question, when ordering a carbon fiber drive shaft does it need to be bigger in diameter than what you would have gotten if it was aluminum? a guy at a shop i called said the reason he didn't use carbon drive shafts is becuase you have to order them in a larger size than what you would need if you went aluminum and it causes fitment issues.

I suggest you call a driveshaft shop that knows high horsepower like Dynotech or The Driveshaft Shop. Tell them what type of racing you are doing with the torque and horsepower output or if you are grocery getting so they know how to build the shaft for you. Also, they will need to know what ujoint you are setup for on the diff. I recommend that they supply the slip yoke and joint for you so it is properly balanced. I also recommend that you use the 1350 ujoint but, make sure that rear diff pinion yoke is a 1350 yoke and you need to remeasure the length between the diff yoke and the tranny tailshaft housing if you change the yoke because the rear diff 1350 yoke length is slightly different.

Carbon tubes are stiffer than aluminum, size being equal, thus most carbon shafts are smaller in diameter than aluminum. Typical aluminum shaft uses a 4" tube. My carbon shaft uses a 3.25" tube.

Yep! RE-read it to see what I'm missing and still don't see what makes them "amazing". That's a LOT to pay just for a coolness factor. I'm at 597hp/575 ft lbs and haven't broken a u-joint much less a driveshaft after multiple 6400 rpm full throttle dragstrip pulls 1000+ miles from home.

My UPS guy is a car guy, Hes always interested on whats coming to the door, He sees the projects in the driveway since I have no shop or garage. Its the sorting I get worried about.
