      I think the more interesting question (and one I'm contemplating as well) is whether the fact that it's carbon fiber that makes it amazing of the fact that Andrew has CV-joints instead of u-joints. I've spoke to Frank about a carbon/cv combination for my car also. He told me I could do a CV shaft with either material, and there is a significant difference in cost.



      If you call Frank, he can explain to you the advantages of the carbon fiber material. In a drag application, there are a few things he told me which are of note. One, if you break a CF shaft, it's not coming up through your floor as already mentioned. But another one is that the 2 materials 'unwind' differently. By that I mean, when you launch, all shafts are going to twist. The difference is the degree of twist and the rate at which it unwinds. From what I recall (I don't drag race, so it wasn't as important to me), the CF will twist more, but it unwinds in a way that doesn't shock the tires as much allowing for a smoother launch. He claimed people will regularly see 60' improvements when switching to a CF shaft.

      Carbon fiber also transmits less NVH than aluminum.
