      Unique Performance Rear Suspension System

      $5k for the kit seems awfully pricey. Here is the copy from their site.
      Anyone seen one of these things? Seems to me that if the linkage rate isn't linear you'd have no end of trouble getting the shocks to work right.

      This Rear Coilover system is the most technologically advanced rear suspensions available for 1964 1/2 - 70 Ford Mustangs and First Generation Camaros, '67 - '69. Elements from various racing series have been put in this package which fits neatly into your existing chassis with only minor modifications. The entire rearend system can be removed from the vehicle easily.

      The positioning of the shocks is the most fundamental feature of the system. Removing the shocks from the axle housing greatly reduces the amount of unsprung weight and allows the shocks to work more efficiently. Placing the shocks below the axle lowers the center of gravity to improve handling.

      System components include:

      * Powdercoated Ford 9" axle housing (minus differential and axles)
      * Double adjustable QA1 shocks with 200lb springs
      * Powdercoated tubular torque arm
      * Powdercoated tubular subframe connectors
      * X-frame connector which acts as a mounting location for the torque arm
      * A tubular designed mounting cage with powdercoated finish
      * All necessary mounting hardware and components

      Looking neato and functioning excellent are two different things indeed. Perhaps the manufacturer should test this product against a nice leaf system and post numbers first before selling it at such a high price.

      I can't see HOW it would work well but they swear up and down that it does.. and they do have it on thier GT350 track mule and it supposed to do pretty good..

      Remember then telling me it was co-developed with Carrol Shelby.. you would think that would mean something..

      <-- shrug

      It is also the rear end on the Foose '69.. I would hate to say it doesn't work without driving one or hearing from an unbiased source that has..

      There is huge thread like 400 posts on CC.com about this suspension. Originally developed by TCP I think and Unique somehow ended up with it. Either original designers could not tranlate on paper it how good it was or just didn't know but the guys at CC.com chewed them up and spit them out. I do not know if Unique redesigned anything or left it as is.

      Having Shelby's name on it will only help sell it. He is a legend in the industry but he had help along the way.

      For $5K I would rather have any other rear suspension and have the change left over in my pocket.

      Oh, I agree.. the price is crazy.. you could buy the DSE four link, minitub kit, front a-arms and a few other parts for the same $$

      Or the new 3-link from Mean69.. I look at the unit from Unique and just scratch my head..

      I have a Unique Performance rear suspension and it was the biggest mistake i ever made. I dont even want to sit here and go over all the issues i have with the quality and the customer service from Unique Performance. Lets just say i would stay away from them.

      I remember seeing a comparo between two mustangs, one with, and one without. The Unique car simply couldn't hook up. It was horrible.

      Chip has no equal in terms of having a head for style and design, but I don't know of anything in his background that says he can engineer a max-performance suspension.

      Foose is all about styling and he is damn good at it, except for the 2nd gen abomination posted above. I don't think he has ever built a car for handling specifically. The "cool looking" yet worthless rear suspension is merely a marketing tool to me.

      I have thought this for a while myself. Odd thing is, I really like some of the one-offs he does for projects, but the production ones are definitely not my cup of tea!

      I'm glad I'm not famous though, nice to know there aren't any forums where people are talking about my designs/wheels/engineering!
