      First Gen F spindle upgrade

      I've found the small stock bearings are not holding up when road racing a 3300 lb car for 40 minute races.
      Does anyone know of a larger spindle shaft for the first gen F that will bolt on?

      Part of the problem is the 11" 4 piston Iron caliper brakes generating way to much heat even with ducting, so I'll be upgrading to larger brakes and tires.

      Finding a spindle is the first step, then a brake package to fit it, and new 17" rims.

      If you are going to upgrade brakes I suggest ATS. There has been some question about the bearings under track use, but I think you will be ok.

      The ATX AFX spindle is going to be the obvious choice given that you intend to upgrade the brakes and wheels at the same time. Alternatively, there are some full race setups that might suit your needs as well depending on your budget, preferences, etc. We've set up a few kits for customers running Coleman fabricted spindles on their early A-body applications which ran SET5 inner and SET3 outer wheel bearings on what basically amounted to a GM pickup or 71-76 Impala spindle pin, but this can require other upgrades such as lower ball-joints and custom steering arms. Otherwise, there are ways to get more life from the bearings and brakes you're running by swapping to aluminum hubs, aluminum rotor hats, solid bearing preload spacers, better grease, etc. as the vintage race guys don't have the luxury of upgrading due to class rules.

      Is it really possible to take too many percocet? I typoed it anyway...I meant ATS AFX...not ATX AFX.

      Another option could be to run the Wilwood D8-4 aluminum calipers with Thermlock pistons and some quality pads. Given that you said you were running the 4-piston calipers on the 11" rotor, am I correct in that you're running an integral hub/rotor and not the stand alone hub and C3 Corvette rotor setup? The C3 rotor is a 11.75" x 1.25" thick rotor and much better suited to what you're doing. It's still old school, but at least it's heavy-duty old school. I never have like the stamped caliper mounts used by those setups though...they tend to move around a lot when you throw some high CoF pads at them which can lead to some pretty interesting pad wear and witness marks inside the caliper body where it hits the rotor under heavy braking. We made several heavy-duty billet chromoly race bracket kits for some vintage guys running the C3 configuration front brakes, but they were horrendously expensive and we still lost our a$$...they did work awesome though.
