lt1 rear pads - why springs?

I get that the springs stop it from rattling but they also force the outside pad into the rotor because of a set of little bumps cast into the rotor. The springs want to sit on these pads to keep them in place in the rotor but because they are slightly sloped the pad heads for the rotor. Any thoughts - should I grind down the bumps?
