Worst thread in the history of Pro-touring.com. As long as you are successful there will always be imitators. You can bitch and moan, but it's not going to do a damn bit of good. It's one thing to copy an idea or a part, it's another to market it, service it, and have a good reputation that keeps clients coming back. There have been many decisions on my build that have been based on recommendations and research related to the members and sponsors on this board. Perfect examples are Prodigy Customs, Classic Chevy, and Detroit Speed. If I have a problem or need a part, who am I going to call? You bet, they have earned their reputation like many other sponsors probably have with you.

I started my car so long ago and there were no parts available like there is now. With that in mind there still are not many parts that will fit my car today without modifying them because of it. The amount of creativity needed to come up with the parts I need is still just up to me.

The best compliment about my car ever came from Tyler. He basically told me that no matter how long it will take me to finish my car there will never be another like it.

So I have to believe that to make a car part more creative you have to have a situation that requires it to overcome a problem that comes from a new direction and way of building a car to begin with.

Creativity isn't dead for those that are going down a new road, only for those that just want to make the road wider.

Very interesting thread. Long Live Creativity. I give you lyrics by the Who:

Down at the astoria the scene was changing,
Bingo and rock were pushing out x-rating,
We were the first band to vomit in the bar,
And find the distance to the stage too far,
Meanwhile its getting late at ten oclock,
      Rock is dead they say,
      Long live rock.

Long live rock, I need it every night,
Long live rock, come on and join the line,
Long live rock, be it dead or alive.

People walk in sideways pretending that theyre leaving,
We put on our makeup and work out all the lead-ins,
Jack is in the alley selling tickets made in hong kong,
Promoters in the pay box wondering where the bands gone,
Back in the pub the governor stops the clock,
      Rock is dead, they say,
      Long live rock.

Long live rock, I need it every night,
Long live rock, come on and join the line,
Long live rock, be it dead or alive.

      Landslide, rocks are falling,
Falling down round our very heads,
We tried but you were yawning,
Look again, rock is dead, rock is dead, rock is dead.

The place is really jumping to the high-watt amps,
til a 20-inch cymbal fell and cut the lamps,
In the blackout they dance right into the aisle,
And as the doors fly open even the promoter smiles,
Someone takes his pants off and the rafters knock,
      Rock is dead, they say,
Long live rock, long live rock, long live rock.

Long live rock, long live rock, long live rock,
Long live rock, long live rock, long live rock.

Long live rock, I need it every night,
Long live rock, come on and join the line,
Long live rock, be it dead or alive.

Lasted only a view months Before a Canadian Copied the product and to top that he even copied my AD almost to the letter mocking me for all to see.

There's more then one Canadian company known for that, copying items not made in your country is easier to get away with.

You have to love in the very discussion where Fesler is being accused of stealing ideas there are about 5 guys asking them for parts. I have to say they are doing something right???

I work for an OEM in the power generation business and reverse engineering is rampant. My company is guilty and we are the victims of it as well.

I have often thought about buying stock in Romer and Faro.

Well how about, Are any of the companies making parts for anything other than Camaros? Not everyone owns one, there are "OTHER" cars out there! As long as the parts are being made with good quality I don't care who makes them.

I don't think anyone is upset about multiple companies offering competitive product. The problem is when company A makes something innovative and then company B comes along and completely copies it. At least put the time into developing your own product and generating your own design. Or heaven forbid, improve upon your predecessor.

The more companies offering competitive product, the cheaper our cost becomes. But I also want to see innovation from newcomers.

Yeah, it's really not about the parts at all. It's about community. The pro-touring segment is like no other. The aftermarket industry claims about 4 million vehicles and about 18 billion in gross sales. Street/strip, 4x4, late model accessories, street rods, oval track, restoration, etc. From a national perspective--the aftermarket is tiny. It's an entire industry that barely equals or exceeds the gross sales of Lowe's Home Improvement.
Now break out the pro-touring segment. My numbers estimate far less than 100,000 real pro-touring cars. By any measure, those numbers are way small. It's what's known as a vertical market like Ferraris or Zoot Suits. Did you bet the farm on pro-touring? Too bad, so sad.

So, assuming there are no fortunes to be made in pro-touring, what's left? Passion, camaraderie, community. The pro-touring segment is like no other. I firmly believe that we are smarter, more informed, more creative, and more dedicated than the average aftermarket enthusiast. I'm sorry if that sounds righteous. For example, we could go out and by a used C4, C5 vette and have comparable performance with a lot less headaches. Got some tin? Step up to a new Z06. Not a Chevy guy? Score a new Mustang or Challenger. But we don't. We can't. Like junkies to a dark alley, we push on. We solve problems. We get creative. We work together. We cannot be B.S.'d.

Companies like Unique Performance crashed and burned because they overestimated the size of the market and underestimated the intelligence of their customers.

I literally have no idea who that inquisitive machinist worked for. ...Doesn't matter. So it's not fair to point the finger at anyone. Review my posts and it will be abundantly clear that I did not accuse any one individual or business. Nor have I mentioned or pimped my products or services in this thread.

The subject of creativity was introduced for the good of the pro-touring community. We should stick together--business to business and business to consumer. 'Cause that's what communities do. Let's keep it that way. That's how we dooz it.
