How many ideas never see the light of day because of the fear someone will just steal it and you will be left out in the cold?
I have ideas but why bother. I could spend a bunch of time and money developing a part but I know it would be stolen in about 15 minutes if I took it to market. I just have the parts made for me and if the machinist I use wants to run with it all I ask for is some consideration in the future. One is in the works right now that I am actually having second thoughts about taking to market so this thread is very timely to me.
My hats off to you guys that put up with it.

I love ATS wouldn't bash them and for sure not here. I think you missed the point tyler if your saying you din't base you spindle on C5/C6 then I kinda think your full of it. Can I prove it nope. would I bet on it Yep

You made improvements and adapted it to the various applications that was the point of my comment.

I love it when people focus on grammer in posts. It makes me laugh to know it disturbs them enough to comment on it.
I am sure your rich well educated and free from any leanring disabilities. Yep your better then me. Take that to your grave your supeior to some. Your parents did well. Now bugger off!

Wow.... Are you totally sure of this? Do you know the history of how the spindles came to be? From your comments, the answer is obviously "no". The only C5/C6 parts on the spindle are the hubs. Everything else, like Tyler already posted, was designed from scratch. If you don't want to believe that, look at the two spindles next to one another. I still remember when his idea first came up to produce these parts. Yeah, it was a long time ago. Do some research before you start jabbering off on stuff you know nothing about.

Oh, and I could have edited your grammar in my post as well, but I just didn't really feel like it. I'm not rich, or the best educated. I just use some form of natural intelligence. And don't use my name in vain. I can. Now you can "bugger" off....

guys take a breather, i remember well when Tyler did the spindle, it was originally based on the s.e.d spindle steilow used on thrasher or one of his cars, with his approval Tyler went ahead and used what mark had learned and improved upon it.
I think what xlexus meant was just what my last sentence said. "Tyler took what mark did with the s.e.d and improved upon it, thus not making it a copy but his own design(which came to existence through an existing part). Thus being a benefit to the hobby/business, not a part that was a poorly made copy not kept in stock.
Tyler, please correct me if i am wrong.

I do not work in the automotive industry. I do spend a lot of money in it. I work in IT (specifically consulting to IT suppliers and IT departments). I also work globally and have spent a lot of time all over the world, including China and India....and yes I have set up many an Indian Call Centre.

One of my key areas of focus right now is actually innovation.

Many of the posts already in this thread are accurate. It is a fact of life that commodotisation occurs over time in every product and every industry. The simple fact is that the lag between true market differentiation and commodotisation has actually reduced dramatcially. Like everything in life exponential change occurs. So 10 years ago and new product may have no real competition for 2 years, now you'd be lucky for 3 months. The speed at which organisations can tool up, transfer resources and punch out competitive products is mind blowing.

Does that mean creativity is dead? No far from it, the cycle of innovation is clear, in order to survive you have to sell your way to success via innovation. But Innovation can take many forms, not just in product, it can be in services, supply, integration and a range of other factors.

Quality these days is table steaks, sure there is plenty of cheap crap out there, but the stuff that does sell has to be of reasonable quality.

My view is innovation comes from having the desire, passion and energy to take your ideas and value prop to such a level that your competitors either can't or choose not to follow.

That may sound like great consulting speak....in simple terms it means never give up on innovation, continuous innovation is what leaves the competitors for dead.

I love all the products you guys make, and have bought many of em and will be buying more of them....this industry exists cause of you guys !!

      Chill out, like right now.

You jumped into a thread and made a false statement about someones product. That alone is offense enough, but doing so in the manner you demonstrated makes you look silly in addition to just plain incorrect.

I can't spell worth a darn either, but I try to use spell check when I am unsure and focus on effective punctuation and grammar. That is the key in communicating your thoughts effectively.

Remember, the only interaction we have with one another on the internet is what we write, and, like it or not, how well you write it. Making you're point in a concise manner adds quite a lot of credibility to your words, and this community is rather keen on credibility.

If your writing skills are lacking, try to improve them. Make a real effort and it will show in what you type. Take your time in making a post. Quality nearly always trumps quantity.

It will make you a better communicator and the girls all love a man with a big vocabulary.

Though I found it patently offensive, since you brought up the subject I'll address it. I am dyslexic, and deaf in one ear. The combination made learning a stone-cold pain in the keister as a child. It was tough to hear the teacher, tough to keep up with reading assignments and writing assignments took me at least twice as long as my fellow students. But I decided not to let it hold me back, and refused to use it as an excuse. So I worked my butt off to compensate for it and have done rather well for myself as a result. Thanks for asking.

....oh, one more thing.......It's you're, a contraction of "you are." "Your" implies ownership by you, i.e. "your damn cat crapped on the dining room table again."

People have been stealing ideas, copying each other for ever. I think it sucks, but the lawyer costs to defend yourself are so high that as usual the criminal has the edge.

Creativity ain't dead but I understand Steevo's frustration, if you make something and someone else copies it and profits from it.

Unless you are a multimillion dollar company you can't fight it and all to do is keep your nose to the grindstone and press on. Not what most want to hear but reality of today.

No different than a working man paying taxes for someone sitting home with no desire to work. Sounds like the new gov't. LOL.

I wish everyone would just get over it and stop thinking they are such professionals with everything. The hatters need to go away and stop just posting to start things. Everyone up here seems to know so much but think about this for one minute before you go firing your post up.

We build many parts and the design kills everyone out there, think about this for one minute before you start ripping everyone up that makes parts. We build a Billet hood hinge for the 55-56 Chevy right now and with all the R&D, mill time, fitment issues on off, on off, on off well you get the point we have invested over $10,000 in one part. Not including all the packaging and press work to get the parts out there.

I am tired of people and most of you know who you are that just want to sit back and tell everyone how everything is made and where they got what from. We have parts, Twist has parts, Marquez has parts and Ring has parts and some stuff will cross over and there is nothing anyone of us can do about it. I tried to work with some of the other guys by designing parts and have them make them but they were not interested because they told me we have a part that no one will buy. That is my number one selling part now so I guess they were wrong. I am here to make parts that you guys want.

If someone wants to buy a part from the competitor that is fine. Everyone will not like what we have or what they have that is why multiple parts it great for business. If you guys keep emailing me about parts that my competition makes but cant get out what am I to do? I have the man power to make parts and keep them on the shelves shipping and for some reason everyone wants to beat us up for that.

We will continue to build cool parts and ship cool parts we will keep most stuff in stock depending on finish and we are not going anywhere. We have way too much invested into this. Parts we show are actual parts that are working and shipping and we are working on many other parts.

You guys ask for it and we will build it, it’s that simple and if you have a problem let us know don’t go start stuff behind our back and talk crap.

The rant was probably too long for most to get through and pick out.

Will do all hail the mighty Mods. I can relate to your learning challenges and envious of the fact that you were able to get over them. I wasn't as lucky. Also I haven't figured out how to get I spell on MAC.
I don't know either way if ATS scratch built their spindles never pretended I did. That wasn't my point. I am entitled to my opinion and I am open to changing it. Jake gets the point guess he has superior reading comprehension :-)

When we get the spindle back, I'll mock up that brake package again, and get you that measurement.
In the mean time, you can go to www.brakepros.com and get the fitment sheet for a C5 Corvette, and be spot on for the measurement.

There is a big difference between a simple opinion and an assault to someones integrity. You made the jump from the former to the latter.

I do think however thier is room for a bit of this. Take for example the ATS spindles for Gen 1 camaros. Thier is no questin that are basically Corvette spindles retooled for camaros.
By throwing "Pirateing, lazyness, rebranding and the balls to measue a part you intend on Pirateing" in ahead of your example (which BTW was unfounded in fact) you insinuate that Tyler engaged in "Pirateing, lazyness, rebranding and the balls to measue a part you intend on Pirateing".

....and when Tyler explained to you that the only similar feature was the hub (off the shelf part) and the brake bracket spacing (among 3-4 industry standard configs) and that each and every physical dimension and numerous other features (ball joint bushings for one) were different you still insinuated that he in some way ripped off GM's design.

If that is true I apologize as that was not intent. Even if it's only one opinion based on your interpretation.

By throwing "Pirateing, lazyness, rebranding and the balls to measure a part you intend on Pirating" in ahead of your example (which BTW was unfounded in fact)

you insinuate that Tyler engaged in "Pirateing, lazyness, rebranding and the balls to measue a part you intend on Pirateing".

I will apologize on this too I guess my thought process gets lost in the translation. My ignorance to sentence structure I guess. I didn't realize putting these in this order had the effect you mention.

....and when Tyler explained to you that the only similar feature was the hub (off the shelf part) and the brake bracket spacing (among 3-4 industry standard configs) and that each and every physical dimension and numerous other features (ball joint bushings for one) were different you still insinuated that he in some way ripped off GM's design.
I my intent was not to insinuate that he ripped off anybody. My intent was to depict how people like Tyler could take an existing product and engineer it to meet the needs of a completely different application. And in this case improve its performance. I don't find anything wrong with that nor my comment. I stand by it. Sorry if you don't agree with it or if its intent is lost in my poor execution of translating thought to word.

Thanks for the encouragement. I am excited to know that the simple use of Firefox makes my written word more palatable and distinguishable. It also as such adds creditability in some folks eyes.
I that in itself is silly but I am in no position to change the world.
