      RS conversion help

i bought a complete RS headlight conversion kit for my 69 camaro. i bought the DSE electric doors as well. originally my car was a standard 69, but i always wanted the RS headlights. i also put RS fenders on the car as well. my problem is i am not 100% sure on how it all goes together. does anyone know where i can find a diagram or have some that would help me in the installation of this set up? any and all help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

I'm about to convert my 69 as well and am wondering what exactly I need to buy? I'm trying to do this on a budget but with parts like the DSE electric doors for convenience. I do believe the car was an original RS because of things such as reverse lights in the lower rear valance, vacuum hoses coming out of the wiper motor and I believe one of the fenders does have the tab towards the front.

My question is what in total do I need? and why?

Any help is GREATLY appreciated..and suggestions on how I might go about doing this on a relatively tight budget.

      Thanks all!

      RS Conversion

I just did this but am not finished and did it on a budget. I was able to locate good GM used Rt. & Lf. capsules for $300.00 including chrome grilles. But if you buy 2 new ones it will run about $350.00 for repros and you will need 2 chrome grilles for $120.pr., a RS grille about $170.00, RS fender adapter brackets unless you have RS fenders currently $25.00 to attach the capsules, the back of the capsules attach where your current housings do on the radiator support. I do not currently have the DSE motors and just manually operate them for now. I removed the bellcrank part that hangs down so I did not drill a hole in the inner fender which is where that hangs through. It was easy to install by just looking at the parts once you have them. I will post some pics of what it looks like later.

Thanks so much for the replies and help blainemeyer and Gregster, this will really help!

One more quick question, is there a difference in the hood latch? I seem to recall hearing people mention an "RS" specific hood latch ?

      Thanks again all,

The hood release on 69 models are the same. It's only 67 and 68 that require a different RS hood release.

I converted my 67' to and RS grill with a classic industries kit. The kit was rather disappointing, The components were good quality, it included a chassis assembly book but, no detailed instructions and no wiring diagram! (the 67' is the electric RS) I ended up with 3 relays and a bracket i didn't know where they went. Also, in the 67' the headlight switch is different and wasn't included in the kit. So, i went to radio shack, got some double relays, and made the doors operate with a signal from the headlight power.

I was discussing this on camaro forums and a guy posted about a kit that was complete. It may beat classic, check it out.

Hey juggernaut, thanks for the info...the conversion kits from Heartbeatcity seems pretty complete. I"ll be doing more research as I save up some coin, good lead though.
