Well maybe.... I want to build to a spec and not to a dollar amount. I think if I say build an x dollar car I may not be happy. If however, I say build me a car with these specs and the cost is somewhat in the ballpark I would go that way.

I would love to build it myself but I don't have the time or skill required for that big of a job. I was thinking about doing some myself and contracting out other parts but that sounds like a hassle and if I add in the anticipated rookie mistakes I'm sure to make, it would end up costing more.

Not to put Frank on the spot but a very quick "ball park" was around 3000 man hours and 50K in parts. I'm thinking parts might be a bit more and hopefully with the condition of the car the man hours may drop some. Regardless, that does total out north of 100k considering a Roush engine is $25k and a Morrison full active frame is up there also...

What's cool is this has taken a positive turn from just being a pipe dream to being considered a real possibility sometime in the next 6-18 months.

A Pro-tour Mach1 would be sweet and somewhat unique....

      $75 (or more) X 3000 hours = $225,000

sounds like it may still be a dream

Sorry guys, not at $75 yet, only $50 and $60. The $50K parts will be short with a $25K motor.

Yep - at that cost it is a pipe dream. However, I think 3000 hours may be just a guess at this point by Frank and it's always better to err on the high side.

The body and frame of my Mach is rust-free and straight so that may knock off some hours....

If you have 3000 hours in a car with morrison chassis, something sounds wrong to me, 3000 hours better be more than just a Morrison chassis. I'm thinking full tube chassis and all the goodies. And 50k In parts is a dream, cuz there is no way your gonna have 50 in parts in a 3000 hour car, more like 100,000 in parts.

To build a nice well rounded street car you should figure,
      40% labor,
      10% engine,
10% transmission, drivetrain, brakes, and suspension.
      10% paint and body,
10% interior, with door and window rubber and electronics
      5% tires and wheels,
10% all the nickel and dime crap.

If you do a big fabrication car, some of these numbers can stay low, but alot of times you have to hand fab a lot of parts to go on that full custom chassis. Headers, fuel tank, seat brackets and such. Off the shelf parts and full custom triple throw down chassis can look dumb.

Imagine if I put sanderson headers on Johns nova.

Well before this slips into "who can build for what cost" thread I think I have some ideas of what I can expect and who I should talk to when ready. I do thank all of you for your input and hopefully I can someday brag about my fancy Pro-tour Mach1 and how it trumps all those Camaros (couldn't resist).....

      Yep - that's a nice car.

If you start building a list of parts you can start to get an idea how much you may actually spend.

      VERY rond numbers

      $20,000 engine and accessories
      $5,000 transmission set up
      $2,500 rear
      $12,000 frame / suspension
      $3500 brakes
      $6,000 wheels / tires
      $10,000 Misc

      $59,000

      Very fast math.

Obviously this is very vague, all it was inteended to be.

As for 3000 hours, we are at 2000 hours in Project EmptyNest just to paint. And it is not a full chassis. Another 500 to 800 to finish. Speaking of which, I gotta get back to work! 3 weeks to go!

yea but project empty nest was a COMPLETE RUST bucket, if you did not have to replace any panels how many hours would you have?

Jeff - that frame is what I am talking about. And yep the shock towers have to go but I want more stability than a Mustang II front end can supply. I personally have seen two M II setups that failed. One sagged and the other physically came apart. Hence a full frame is the way to go IMO.

We don't use Mustang 2 suspension.
Spindles, A arms, etc are made specific for our chassis.
