      Car builder....

      If you wanted to have a daily driver built to the max as a Pro Tour car who would you select? Assume the following;

      - Perfect body 69 Mach1
      - all modern drivetrain
      - Must drive and handle like a car on rails
      - some mild body mods (smooth light bucket gaps, flair fenders, etc)
      - custom paint
      - custom interior
      - 700+HP fuel injected engine
      - 5 or 6 speed manual
      - coilover or air ride suspension
      - power windows and locks
      - shaved doors

I know this is very basic but assume a top Pro tour Camaro "job" but done on a Ford Mach1.

Who could tackle a job like that? I guess the real question is, Are there shops out there who can do Pro tour to a Mustang?

First choice would be Ring Brothers, followed by G-force, then Unique Performance.

For the body or interior; there are plenty of shops that handle that.
Mark at MME did my current engine and frame mods. He's ok but nothing special... I'm talking something way beyond his skills.

Ring Brothers, etc... is what I'm talking about but I figure the wait list must be a long one.

To add to my original post I would want an active frame like a Morrison and minute detail on the undercarriage, engine bay, etc...

And it would be nice to complete the project w/i a year....

$200K daily driver? We could be interested in that! I love the idea of cars getting used. We talking to someone out of the country about doing a 70 Mach 1 (right hand drive and all) similar specs to what you are talking about

We could do the project and we have a full chassis for that car.
The Mustang full chassis has been revised some from these pics, but you get the idea.
It ditches the stock shock towers.
I'm also in process of building a 1000+ hp twin turbo Ford Racing Boss block 302 at the moment will have dyno results in 45 days.

      Mustang

How about the shop that built the cover car from Tony Huntimer's Ford book?
We have 2 Mustangs going right now 1 '65 fastback and the other is a '66 convert, they are his and her's cars both powered by injected Roush 427 small blocks with 6 speed transmissions, custom Budnik wheels, 6 piston Baer brakes and more. Have beed really wanting to do a '69 or '70 Mustang Sportroof, aka Fastback.
PM me if you want to more. To see some of our other work we built Steve Broscoe Camaro that is featured in the Oct isue of Popular Hot Rodding.

Frank - glad you responded. I'm originally from Winter Park and still have family and friends in the area including a hot rod father and a custom bike builder buddy. I asked the buddy to ask around and Prodigy has a good rep - plus my Pops really digs the 67 vette you did.

Though I would not say the Mach is a daily driver I do put 4k on it a year and drive it to work, shows and even the hardware store. But regardless of where I go I go fast... Not crazy but I don't baby it. Afterall, life it short so enjoy the day... With suspension, engine and braking upgrades I would want to drive it even more.

KP - your list of goodies in similar to mine. I really covet the Roush 427IR with the 8-stack. The 550hp is a bit low but I assume some mods can be made to pump up the HP.

Jeff - that frame is what I am talking about. And yep the shock towers have to go but I want more stability than a Mustang II front end can supply. I personally have seen two M II setups that failed. One sagged and the other physically came apart. Hence a full frame is the way to go IMO.

To give everyone a perspective of where I am at I've graduated from the "it's a dream of mine" to "let's really determine what it will take to accomplish" mode. Hence my email of testing the waters out there.

Some items I already have that can be incorporated is a TKO600 and a Moser 31 spline tru-trac 3.89 rear. And of course a sweet, rust free body and undercarriage.

$200K is hard to swallow but I am prepared for over 100k.... What I do not want to happen is to get nickeled and dimed once the project starts. To avoid this I want to make sure I have everything accounted for and a good relationship with the builder so that we are on the same page. I know what I think I want but would want the builder to advise me on alternatives and best practices.

I think your much better off selling your 69 and building a new car; if it's a real Mach I you're only going to decrease the value of it.

If you want to build the car you are talk about start with something now special like a standard 69-70 mustang which you could buy cheaper or buy one of the 67 dynacorn bodies and build off that.

Hey a bit on Mark and MME. I didn't want to appear too harsh on MME. I really like Mark and he is a great engine builder. However, I think his area of expertise is more of a 1/8, 1/4 miler or a circle track engine. If you are looking for a 7k spinning mean ass Ford engine I would really recommend him. But if you are looking for a complete job with some interaction and customer service - look elsewhere.

I contracted with him 3 years ago to pull and stroke my 351C out to a 408C. I was specific to state my desire for a streetable engine. What I got was a great track engine but not too great for a street racer. Also, though Mark is a wealth of info his other half is a real impediment to the daily business.

What turned me off was a 50% increase in the final price .v. the quote though nothing was really changed, the fact that he picked up the car January 7th with a promise of delivery in April but I got it back June 2. And he really didn't even start working on it until mid April mainly because I was talking about coming down for a progress check and he realized he had accomplished very little prior to that time. That also caused him to rush the job IMO.

Silly things like the right motor mount was 1.5" lower so the engine was leaning and had a rough feel. He built me a 10.7:1 compression engine and left the stock starter in. Instead of upgrading the starter he knocks the timing down to 8* initial so it would start. However, performance really suffered. He recommended an all mechanical vacuum setup and then instead of locking out the vacuum dizzy he runs a line from the dizzy vac port back to a shared vacuum tree. Vacuum goes to hell and brakes don't work. Other things like telling me to buy special plugs that don't even work in my engine, promising the car will be delivered at 4pm and showing up at 10pm. Kinda hard to check out the mods in the dark.

So I guess you chalk it up to a learning experience but I was a bit pissed with the outcome. It cost me $1500. and countless hours to fix his mistakes....

If it were a number matching Mach I would certainly agree. However, it was a low end Mach (351W-2V, FMX, 3.08 open, etc...) when built and it was a 351C, toploader, Ford 9" when I bought it. So none of the drive train was original and face it a 351W-2V and an FMX is hardly a top end Mach.

Plus I'm not really worried about the resale value. This car is very similar to the 1st car I ever owned so it will probably be with me forever. I often tell the wife to bury me in it with a good battery and the radio blaring.

yes he does and he IS a great guy. Also I think I was one of the 1st to present a "street" car to him and maybe he was not ready for that type of commitment. Also I hear he is moving his shop out to Rt301 and expand. That would be a good thing for him and his business.

Mark is a wealth of information and I would not hesitate to have him in my Pit crew if I were a racer. he should have won the Engine Masters last year. Taken down by an bad oil filter is a damn shame.

Smartest thing he could do though is fire the wife or at least not let her handle customer "issues". She really got under my skin....

If you want that type of car talk to Pete @ ReenMachine. One of his cars is on this month's cover of Mustang Montly.

MD ain't THAT far from FLA. If I had the coin to do so, I'd pop it into a trailer and take it to Frank.

My thoughts exactly and I'm a transplanted FL guy with family in the area. But the hell with a trailer - I would drive it down. May not pass many gas stations but that would be fun....

Honestly there are only two guys I would trust to do it for me if I had the coin to do so. Both of them have posted in this thread.
