1969 Chevelle

Made a little bit of progress last night and thought I would start a thread over here. I'm trying to get better at metal fab/welding so some of this may not be pretty but it's coming along! Cut out a bunch of bondo and rust and welded in some new metal on the inner structure of the roof. Haven't ground it down yet to clean it up, but it's better than it was. Also, started shaving the drip rails in sections so the roof skin doesn't come off.

On a separate note, after I started shaving the drip rails a couple nights ago the wife suggested i do flush mount glass front and rear. I guess that's not the worst thing to add to a "honey do" list!

Time for an update...Wife gave me fiberglass fenders as an early Xmas present so the Chevelle is starting to look like a car again. While shaving the passenger side drip rail found A TON of rust that was still hiding under the paint. Found someone had done a crap job of "fixing" it at some point in it's life by beating in the factory roof panel with a hammer, putting a piece of tin over it (without welding) and covered it in approximately 1/2" of bondo. Anyways, got it cut out, ground clean, and new metal in it's place. With the fenders on it gives me MAJOR motivation to work harder on this thing!

Just a little update...been working on more rust repair so nothing too exciting to post. But I did get House of Kolor Digital Paint Booth and thought I'd get some feedback on a few different renderings I've done and see what people think!

Love the chevelle. Love how its a DIY project. I see it has a roll bar, former drag car? Dunno how i feel about everyone shaving their drip rails but i guess its just a matter of personal taste. Cool car, looking forward to seeing it turn into a monster.

Thanks, lucky13firebird I'm pretty proud of the work so far even if it's not "perfect". I bought the car as a inline 6/powerglide car and added the cage a few years back and will likely be converting it to 10pt. I had mixed feelings about shaving the drip rails too, but I've heard the wind noise at 100+ with the A-pillar rails was deafening and since I'm not far from Willow Springs Raceway I decided to ditch them. This thing will never see rain and I'm adding more drain holes on the doors to try and prevent future rusting issues.Here's some pics from when I started this build, before doing a 65 Mustang for my wife that stole 2 years of my life.

Well I made some more progress this weekend. I needed a break from fixing rust so I decided to do something a little more fun. Shaved the firewall and got the motor and trans set in the car but not for good. It'll have to come back out to finish the firewall and paint it, but at least it freed up some valuable floor space in my two car garage. Pics aren't the best since they are just with my phone but you get the idea. I might just have to invest in an actual digital camera so I can keep a better log of the build. Enjoy!

Long story short, I ended up replacing the passenger side quarter panel over the weekend. I got SUPER lucky and found a guy down the street selling an after market panel for only $30 I couldn't believe it so I had to grab it. It was a lot of work, but I'm really glad I decided to go through with it. The body is really coming along, just can't wait to fire it up! Some of the pics aren't too good since I had my back up against the workbench.
