Something you might want to consider is an OLD Ford 8 Inch Rear-end.
I know a lot of guys running the 8 inch rear in Shelby and Ford Mustang Full ROAD Race prepared cars running 450HP-500HP race engines with Toploader transmissions and 5 Speeds with no problems at all. Yes they are running a good center section and good axles. Certainly not the setup for drag racing however the loads on the rear-end is different road racing.
The 8 inch rear-end is MUCH lighter and has proven hard to tear up road racing. Also somewhat cheaper to build and certainly much to cheaper to buy on the front-end.
Something to consider?
Bigger, Badder, Heavier and more expensive is NOT always better or needed!
