      Quick release steering hub

Anyone using this or something like it? Can you have a Horn and disconnect the wire as needed?

I don't think you can, it takes the place of the hub with the horn and blinker switch. But you could relocate both of those to the dash.

Other than being "cool" how is a quick disconnect helpful in a street car. I can see where race cars can benefit because drivers have to slide in "Dukes of Hazzard" style. But in a street car that has doors that open, what's the point? I am not being a smarty pants, I just want to know if there is a benefit that I am missing.

      Hi Andrew,

I don't think it would provide a benefit for "most cars".

I'm using one on my build because the racing seats have high sides, and the steering wheel & column is mounted low for my preference ... and it is difficult to squeeze my fat a** in.

OK....now we are getting somewhere. I was just doing something under the dash the other day and all I wanted was for the steering wheel to be gone...

Most of the tuner guys run nrg's. They also bolt up to 6-hole sparco and momo wheels.

I purchased the NRG setup for my car. I did so for three reasons:

      • Easier entry / exit of the car with the current seats
      • MUCH easier to do any work in or under the dash
      • Theft deterrent

I would have to remove the steering wheel to remove my dash panel. While that is hopefully something I don't have to do very often, if I do, removing the steering wheel is a pain. I like the quick release to just pop it off.

Regarding the theft deterrent, without a steering wheel, you can't at least hop in the car and drive it off. And if I recall correctly, I can purchase a locking cap which I can apply over the hub, and that would just offer one more level of protection.

My only concern with the NRG is that it is about 1 inch longer than I would really like it to be. The original Formula steering wheel which I removed had a hub that was about 3" long, and this setup is closer to 4" long.

This is the best picture I have of my setup:

You can find the quick release and hubs at:
