      Gday from across the Tazzy...

Very, very cool. You get the most innovative award hands down. Any word on what sort of psi the V12 is good for?

Thanks guys, I thought it might be something that would fit in around here. It certainly is oddball and the project has come a long way from plans of a small Merc engine upgrade with some throttle bodies and an exhaust!

So the early Toyota/Lexus V8 (1UZ) had awesomely strong rods. Easily capable of taking 20psi. But when people starting trying to cram that much boost into the later 2UZ/3UZ, that all came to grief in a symphony of broken conrods. Those later V8's as said to be safe at a max of about 10psi.

Visual comparison seems to indicate the V12 shares a similar rod to the later V8. But no-one seems to have one running boosted yet (in fact I only know of one V12 conversion that actually starts so far, but it is not tuned yet and the drivetrain is incomplete - fortunately, that is done by the same mechanic doing mine!)

There's a pretty good chance that mine will be the first one running properly and with boost as well. I'm going to keep it to 7psi which should be more than plenty for the amount of rear tyre I'll have anyway!

I love seeing off the wall stuff like this. What do you plan to do about engine management? Best of luck on this project.

Engine management will be a Haltech PS2000 with some custom firmware to correctly run a V12.

Yep, one of a number of ECU manufacturers based in Aus. They definitely have some exposure in the US as well, but companies like AEM and Electromotive probably have a much stronger foothold. Haltech's latest generation of ECU's are really starting to take it to the big boys in terms of quality and functionality though and are very competitively priced.

Here's how the week finished up.

Work has been difficult on this for the last week, sometimes it takes a bit of standback and look time to think things through.

Anyhoo, the manifold, it's throttle body/ies and bonnet clearance were one PITA, finally got a solution to that today with some china Z32 throttle bodies and a std set of Z32 throttles from Face's wrecker mate. Still had a lot of ****ing around to get the pipes to clear the bonnet but it does now. Sorting this allowed the intercooler to be mounted and top tank sorted. Nothing is welded yet, need time and piece to do that.

(One of) the other sticking points was the starter clashing with the idler arm. My mate Matt took the original starter and turned the flange off it leaving just the 55mm snout to locate it. He then turned up a plate that rotated the starter 90degrees. It bolts to one of the original mounts and is grubscrewed through the snout to handle the torque load. I then trimmed off the useless bits and modified some electrical connectors to allow it to fit. Success.

Std starter is next to it.

Next week will be pretty quiet, other jobs are booked in. Hopefully my clutch and flywheel will be finished and I might be able to sort out something with the tailshaft.
