      Carb for 383 stroker

Trying to get some suggestions on a carb for my new 383. Has iron Vortec heads, 10:1 pistons, Performer RPM intake, Comp Cams .454/.454 cam, manual tranny. Car is a 65 LeMans that will be mainly street driven. Any and all advice welcomed.

A 750 would be a good starting point but what kind of use are you planning?

670 Holley Street Avenger for a street driven car. Looks good, easy & simple to adjust or dial in. Vacuum secondaries, quick-change spring, etc.

a little more info is needed to get an acurate assesment, what is the intended rpm (shift point), but judgeing from what you listed above i would say 650 to 750 would be where you want to look, i'm not a fan of vacuum secondaries in a heavier car so i would use a double pump carb, holley makes a 700 cfm DP carb that would probably be perfect for you.

I prefer mech. secondarys in a manual trans application. 650cfm would be my first choice. Enjoy!

Thanks for the replies. Right now i'm leaning towards the Holley 650 Ultra Dbl Pumper. Local speed shop guy can get me a good deal on one since he would like to check one out for himself. Figure if he's willing to give me a deal to use my car as a test mule why not.

The tendency is for guys to over carb engines and in truth a smaller carb will give you better throttle response. I think your 650 is a good choice. In point of fact, I'm running a 600 which worked good to 7000rpm back when I was drag racing.

      This is good advice

A correctly jetted 650 double pumper with mechanical secondaries is the right carb.
