      L92 PCM help...... which harness/controller?

So I have a 6.2L L92 heading my way soon and I am teetering on which harness/controller to go with. One option is have a new harness made & use the regular L92 PCM or 2010 Camaro PCM (evidently it will control the VVT). Doing this requires a dyno tune, but uses all factory GM stuff, so I could go anywhere to find out what is wrong if the check engine light comes on. New harness is near $1000, dyno tune around $500, cam & springs another $400 or so.

The other option I am debating is a MAST Motorsports harness/controller package. It is a complete stand alone harness, it has the connections for the ignition switch, Neutral / clutch switch, all fuses & relays in one little mountable box. But it doesn't use the mass air sensor & if the check engine light comes on I have to use their software to pull the codes. Controller/harness package is over $2200, software to pull codes is another $300, & debating going with their cam/springs package that they claim will make up to 550 hp at the flywheel. And their controller is pre tuned for it.

I'm planning on buying the Mast one this spring. Everything I've read and heard about theirs, it's very easy to tune yourself with the software. Apparently their software allows you to tune things that normal tuning programs won't allow you to. I don't remember what they were, but remember reading that. I also like the idea that they come pretuned to their cams and may need a little tweaking if you have any extras. It's also supposed to be literally plug and play. Plug everything in, run power to it and your set. Mast gets my vote.

Well, Mast got my vote, but you already knew that. If all goes well I will have mine fired up and back on the road in a few weeks and I will let you know what I think.

That would be great! I live in Mooresville (just southwest of Indy) but our garage/shop is in Greenwood (just south of Indy). We love visitors and all kinds of cool parts are showing up early next week! (headers, clutch and flywheel stuff and Vintage Air front runner system)

That's cool, I have friends in Greenwood that I was going to visit too. Getting there through the week or during working hours though may be the tough part. What part of Greenwood you in? I lived there for a little while too, west of 31, south of Main.

We're right off of Smith Valley rd. between SR135 and 37 not too far at all from where you used to be.

Looks like the MAST unit allows wideband control (closed loop even under high load/WOT). The other nice thing is they've already done the homework on the tuning their camshafts with VVT. It would take days to do this on a dyno to optimize camshaft position for VE and spark timing for MBT at part loads as well as WOT.

Gotta think where that is, I lived south of Smith Valley, West of 31. Can't remember the housing edition, is on Ellington Circle. So you are West of there 5-10 miles or so.

im still debating on my engine choice, but im leaning towards the mast harness as well. i still have a bunch of reading to do to figure out all the wiring, but it sounds like the mast harness will take care of some of the stuff that the gmpp harness wont (fans, ac, fuel pump, dash etc)

Yep, has a lot of info in it I hadn't seen anywhere else. But also opened some concerns/questions I didn't think of because I "assumed" too much.

      Like:

      MAST Controller
Does not have a MAF, it uses Speed Density.
Does not have a speed sensor
So also, will not control cruise control.
Has it's own starter circuit, so remove yours & use the connectors they have for the ignition switch & for the Neutral/clutch switch.
AC harness is an add on circuit.

i believe they started adding all of the harnesses with their kits. you might want to call and confirm, but i had asked about the fans and fuel pump and while they used to be add ons, they are now included.

I am not saying that the technology is not neat or useful. All I am saying is that it may not be as dramatic as these Mast results indicate. VVT was designed for engines that have less than ideal cam profiles for performance. The VVT also adds another component that can potentially fail.
