Leaking Head Studs
OK Guys
As the title states, I've got some head studs that are leaking as the system develops pressure. No leaks when cool with no pressure in the system. Does anyone have any suggestions as to a fix without pulling the heads and resealing each stud?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

no need to pull the heads. just do one at a time. pull it, reseal the threads and re-torque. i had the same problem on my BBC. went through one at a time and no more leaks...

pipe sealer works better than RTV. You guys run your studs finger tight?

I don't know if this is the correct way to seal or not, but I've had good luck using that brown sticky Indian Head gasket sealer goop on the threads.
1970 RS/SS350 139K on the clock:
89 TPI motor w/ 1pc rear seal coupled to a Viper T56 via Mcleod's modular bellhousing w/ hydraulic T/O bearing from the Viper, 12 bolt rear w/ 3.73 gearing, SC&C upper control arms, factory lowers with Delalums, C5 brakes at all four corners, Front Wheels 17x8's with Sumi 255/40/17 and Rear Wheels 17x9's with Sumi 275/40/17.

I've had mixed results with teflon thread sealant. I've never had a problem with Permatex #2.

Thanks for the comments. The issue is these are SB2.2 heads and I can't get to the stud unless I pull the head. I saw on another thread about using Alumaseal. I think I will try that first.

I have never had a leak with Permatex Hi Perf Thread Sealant (item # 56521) and their Surface Prep primer for anaerobics. (item # 765-1154).
Wouldn't use Alumaseal at any time personally.Erik

Do it right and pull the heads, the permatex products mentioned work great and for anyone else considering studs ARP makes studs that can be installed or removed with an Allen wrench, don't tighten the studs into the block just run them down snug.
