Paddock Parts - wth is going on?

Anyone know anything about why The Paddock has been putting up the "We are currently closed" message on their phone lines recently?

They're done. They couldn't thrive in the Free Market. I was never fond of their service or prices anyway.

Wow, that's crazy! I placed an order last month and everything was on back order. So I called, and they told me 8 weeks on all items. They couldn't provide anymore specifics like item A will take 2 weeks, item B 8 weeks, etc. So I canceled my order and called up NPD. All items in stock and shipped the same day.

They had to of spent a fortune on all their catalogs. Never had a problem with them but sad to see another in the industry go under. That's never good.

I have always wondered how they made it this far?

They never adjusted to the times 10-15 years ago when lot's of new guys came in and undercut them. They also never seemed to try to get in the reproduction game like the others whether it be a manufacturer or vendor.

It is sad to see anyone that big go under but overhead will kill you in hard times if you don't watch the bottom line, the customers bottom line to be exact.

I don't think they will be missed that much.

I don't see this as a good thing. The paddock stocked parts for some vehicles for people who want more than a trifive or a first gen camaro. That's one less parts supplier for these vehicles, possibly driving the prices up with other companies.

My words are coming back to haunt me. The paddock was the place that stocked my trunk supports for my '76 Malibu. Mine are rusted out and the contours would be a PITA to reproduce in steel, particularly given the thickness of the metal.

Does anyone know of another source for these? (doubtful I know, that's why they call the G3 a-body's the forgotten era. Nobody cares).

I knew I should have bought them, but I was trying to figure if there was a good reason to make my own supports (which would mean a different design). I may have to now.

Sure it wasn't a GM part they were advertising? I didn't think Paddock made any parts. If they didn't that means someone else has it.

The Paddock used to be the go to place but after the original owner sold out it got worse. New owners just didnt seem to have the drive. Sad though, hate to see any US business go down.

I could swear I looked at NPD and OPG, but I'll check again to be sure. I'm not really sure who else might carry it.

Doubt it. I don't think GM makes any parts for this car anymore. If they were GM reproduction pieces I would think that'd been advertised to make more people want to buy it. Plus $25 apiece didn't sound like a GM parts price.

I doubt that there is enough interest yet for anyone to go through the huge expense of tooling for a piece like that, at least before things like patch panels. I bet it is left over GM stock, you would be suprised what GM has if the guy behind the parts counter would get off their behind and look up the parts for old models. I used to work at a Buick dealer and the parts manager told his guys that GM did not have parts for cars over 10 years old, I hammered them on that the showed them that GM did in fact carry alot of parts for my 30 year old Chevy at the time. Try the dealer and do not take no for the quick answer, alot of the counter people are lazy and do not want to look it up in the books, if it ain't on the computer and easy to find it don't exist to them.

It's worth a shot to call your local dealer.

I bought my headlight bezels for my '70 Nova from my local Chevy dealer.

If not, find one in a junkyard and cut them out.

I go to NPD for most of my stuff, cheaper, and closer. Though Year One does a lot of advertising and promotions. I get an email from Year One and Rick's every single day offering some special promo discount. Maybe they should just lower their prices to begin with?
