      AFX spindles with Strong Arms

Anyone running these together with Shockwaves? I was thinking of going this way on my 64 GTO. Did a search but didn't find much, only a brief reference to Vinnie's Camaro.

      Thanks.

I'm not following you on the steering arms. I have the ATS billet A body steering arms so I was assuming that they would work. Or are they too big?

      Thanks.

I don't think Blake caught that you have an "A" Body. We are building a Camaro with this setup right now. No problems since air ride designed it to work with stock spindles.

Thanks Mike. Are you using the shockwave for the stock spindle or the tall drop spindle?

Why not use the airride tall spindles?

I have the strong arms with the ATS spindles on my 68 camaro. The only issue I ran into was having to send the shockwaves back to ART so they could install a longer shock (due to the 7/8" drop with the spindle). Apparently they offer 2 different length shocks and I had the wrong one. I had the "standard" length shock and was only getting 4 inches of travel, now I have almost 6 after swapping it out. I have to blame myself for that (for not doing enough research), its one of the issues you can run into when mixing up parts from different manufacturers. I wasn't getting full travel and was having to put to much air (120psi) to get the "proper" ride height causing a bouncy ride. Now with the longer shock I have more travel and it rides great (with lower air pressure- 90). The ART tech guys and Frank @ Prodigy have been awesome in helping me figure out some issues I had with the system.

      Chris,
I am glad I read this thread. I am just getting ready to install my new shock waves on my '68 with ATS spindles. I am assuming since I did not specify, I too probably have the "standard" length shock waves. Is there any way I can tell.

The standard part is SKW1036 and the tall part is SKW1038. Normally you only get the SKW1038 when you buy their tall spindles.

Thanks Chris. Sounds like I will need the tall part.

cwylie, I am using the AFX spindles because I already have them. I chose them for their low bumpsteer design (with the ATS steering arms) and the ability to bolt on C5/C6 brakes. I think they are a very well designed part.

We are running the tall AFX spindles. I have to check but should have the long Shockwaves as we originally had the Ride Tech spindles and upgraded to AFX for geometry gains and cheaper brakes.

I have them in my Camaro as well - also had to send the shocks back, but I had to have a shorter towers because the car wouldn't sit low enough! I am having some issues with the ball joints in near bind at ride height and the upper control arms are at a steep angle. I have been told I may have to go back to stock spindles. Going to wait to see how it drives before making a decision.
