      T. Boone Pickens Virtual March on Washington

      FYI:
The "New Energy Army" created by T. Boone Pickens is conducting a virtual march on Washington to encourage our government leaders to take action to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. The march will be happening from April 1-3. I'd like to invite everyone to take a look at this website if you'd like to learn more or participate:

      http://www.pickensplan.com/index.php

At the time of this posting there are almost 3.8 million of our fellow citizens signed up to participate in the march.

Hmmm, I wonder if this has anything to do with the billion dollars he dumped into wind turbines from GE without a power grid to support his investment. Now he wants the government to foot the bill for the grid so he can capitalize. I'll sign right up! :bsjerk:

So what is the alternative? Do nothing? Continue sending billions of US dollars to the Middle East and continue to have our economy ruled by their whims? Well, OK if that's what you want...but don't whine when gas is $5.00 a gallon again. It never ceases to amaze me how short people's memories are. Remember about this time last year when the whole country was in crisis over the price of gas? Remember in the '70's when gas was in such short supply that lines went around the block? Well, back in the '70's we imported about 20% of our oil from foreign countries--today we import about 70% of our oil.

Perhaps Boone is in it to make a buck--so what! Do you hear anyone else with a clear vision of how to get us off foreign oil? So maybe he doesn't have a perfect, unblemished record. At least he's willing to stick his neck out and DO something rather than sit back on the sidelines where it's safe and criticize.

I agree....I heard that excuss alot too....he's only doing it to make money bla bla bla whine whine, he's a greedy oil man bla bla bla whine whine ...but the alternative is....the power companies and foreign investors. If an American company doesn't make money from this GREAT idea then someone else will. Why is everyone so against money staying in the US? Answer. Everyone is brainwashed by the big oil companies.

Rich? He already has money. He's already started his pilot strategy. why not jump on board? No one could give me a reason why its bad for this country.

Its funny that everyone screams we need a new source of energy and when one comes up they turn away. I just don't get it.

Bottom line is when industries compete, the consumer wins. We need something to compete with big oil, and like mentioned, if that company is American, were all better off.

Build more nukes! They work when the wind doesn't blow. Wind is not the answer or Solar. Wind farms require an equal amount of backup generation capability to be built for times the wind will not cooperate. They are great for small scale energy needs but they just won't run a large city.

More nukes is where its at!!! I hope you guys realize that the majority of power generation in this country has little to NO dependence on foreign oil...

As far as steam turbines are concerned, nuclear and domestic sourced coal make up most of it.

Combustion turbines are fired by natural gas.

You are missing the point. The "idea" is not in question, the corporate money grab of our tax payer money is. This has nothing to do with foreign oil or american capitalism. Pickens is not the new leader on the the Green movement as much as he would like you think. He wants your money to protect his investment.

I'm not against alternative energy sources. I'm against lobbying for federal tax dollars to subsidize all the risk and expense involved to make his business plan profitable for him.

Well, I don't disagree with that. But we've thrown money at much dumber things here recently.

Sorry True. If Pickens is looking for Washington to provide funds, then he is no better than anyone else that asks for handouts. To me it is just another example of corporate welfareism.

Nail on the head here - it's all about money. Too bad - it's worth even less today!

I'm for nuclear but the problem is no one wants the plant near them and waste in all forms have not been responsibly dealt with. It is going to be a large grid with many sources that will feed our needs. Nuclear, domestic oil exploration, solar, wind, domestic natural gas, wave generation, coal, geothermal, dilithium crystal and flux capacitor energy sources will need to be used where logistically feasible. The key would be to move foreign oil money to these resources in the US.

I do see the point. He is not a leader but who is coming up with new ideas. Don't even give me the electric car is the answer spiel. Might be part of the answer but it is not all of it.

Wait,so foreign sources that have made trillions of dollars from us is fine? I just don't see where the issue is. We had a chance to do this on a private level but when the check came everyone turned away as usual. The citizens cry for it then try to skip on the bill.

Of course he wants to get paid. He's a business man. He has put up a lot to get this rolling why should we not split the bill. As long as the money stays here I'm happy. Last I had read, there is a large Chinese corporation is looking to invest.

Thanks for keeping this civil and non political.
