      overspray.

a lady down the street brought her car to me a couple of days ago wondering what was wrong with her quarter panels. it was obvious that her rear bumper had recently been repainted. I told the lady what it was and asked me if I could fix it. I've never had to remove over spray before and I'm not quite sure how to do it with out having to paint the quarters and while it's not a very thick coat of over spray, it is pretty consistent on the entire quarters and deck lid. any ideas? will a wet sand and buff do the trick? any products out there that can make this an easy job?

      TIA

If it was me i'd wet sand and buff it. Some overspray is very tough to remove. You could try thinner in an out of the way spot, but that has a bigger chance of making a mess.

Try some acetone. NAPA has it for $17 a gallon. I just used some over the weekend to remove overspray on my Chevelle and it worked great.

The hands down simplest way to remove overspray is with clay. No risk of burning the paint or anything like that. I had by GTOs frame dipped, then painted it black. An idiot friend of mine painted a white spoiler or mirror right next to it and didn't bother to notice that the cover had blown off.

The clay took it right off, no problem. Good thing, because I was going to have to kill him otherwise.

I used "magic clay" but there are the other brands around these days.

Not at all. I poured some on a microfiber cloth and then wiped the overspray off. The acetone evaporates pretty quickly so it doesn't really sit on the paint. Of course, it may affect your paint differently, so to be safe try it in a not so noticeable place to see what happens.

x2 on the clay bar. If that doesn't work, then go to chemicals [acetone, thinner, reducer]. Last resort is colorsanding. Factory clear is hard to polish after sanding, and it is pretty thin.
