Which efi system for small block chevy?

First of all forgive my ignorance, since I have always owned carb cars. I am thinking about changing my current carbed motor out, to a fuel injection system. I have a 350 HO crate motor from GM, headers & flowmaster dual exhaust. It is relatively low hp & torque wise, with around 330hp 385 ft/lbs of torque. Any suggestions on a bolt on EFI system, that would yield some power gains, better throtle response? Is it even worth it? Or should I start fresh with something from turnkey engines, or nelsons. Of course that is serious $$$$.

I've got a Holley Commander 950 EFI 383 and like it a lot. In addition to tuning fuel and spark with a computer, the instant starts in all weather, mileage and the throttle response is pretty nice. The Holley system has been around for a long time and the software look and interface is a bit dated, but it works just fine and there's a lot of support for it on the ChevyTalk efi forum. If you're not doing nitrous with extra fuel requirements, timing retard and so on, it's a fine system.

For your particular engine, you might also look at the Chevy 350 RamJet system. You could probably get it as a complete bolt-on and not even do any tuning if that's what you want, simply make sure your cam matches the RamJet 350 cam.

EFI isn't that bad when you get into it, although the initial set up - fuel tank, fuel system plumbing, wiring, etc. - can be a bit daunting.

+1 for either of the Holley 950 systems (Holley Stealth Ram and the Single Plane setup). Lots of support available in the EFI forum at ChevyTalk.com.

That decision depends on your long term HP goals and your budget.

First: Read the sticky thread at the top of the fuel injection forum if you haven't already to learn about the different types of injection.

If you keep your engine as is, you can get a lot of bang for your buck with a less expensive TBI system (GM or aftermarket). It is not the best injection by any means, but still a huge step up from a carb.

If you want to save money and use TBI, I have a NOS GM TBI slightly enhanced complete system to offer that uses an AC Delco ECM.

For higher HP goals and/or a fat budget, there are better systems than TBI, as the sticky thread explains. The big question for you to answer is this - are the added gains of the higher $ systems enough to justify the price difference?

Higher HP engines have no choice but to use the higher $ systems. In the 330hp range, you have more choices.

I have the 3500 eddy EFI. Just curious, are you selling it cause you were disappointed? I love mine, so far, fairly painless. The reason I ask is cause Id like to know of any problems I might see coming my way. So far nutthin and I would recommend it. JR

Thanks for all the input, some good info, I am leaning towards starting with something fresh, either a transplant LSX motor already set up for multi-point EFI or something equivalent. I am going to take the car to the next level.

I really prefer the Megasquirt stuff, open source and easily repairable and not overly priced, and it can be adapted to several different parts with no issue, makes switching parts on road much easier in an emergency.

I have heard alot of good stuff re: megasquirt. I looked into it as a option in case my ECM takes a dump. Alot of great info on the web concerning megasquirt. JR

      fuel injection

Big Stuff 3 or F.A.S.T, easy to use and can handle just about any upgrades down the road.

Big Stuff works well but tech support is terrible. FAST and ACCEL work excellent. I have installed and chassis dyno tuned many of each. Mark @ Speed Sports (AZ) 480-539-4842
