Thanks for replying but probably an hour before you replied I bought a tick shifter. The life time warranty and the great feedback in this thread made me go for it

I finally got around to taking the car out for a drive. Logged 38 minutes of drive time around backroads and city so that I could go through the gears some. I know there is much more testing to be done in order to call it good; but I am pleased to report that after a couple hours of setting time, the basement floor is dry. I will try to remember to update the thread when I get some real miles on her. As for now, I can put away my shop rags.

Keeping an eye on this as I just had to replace the seal on my Red Roberts shifter. Pretty sure mine was bad when it left Red's shop.. someone apparently was having a bad day and didn't give a rats ass.

I used a CV boot, stuff a few of the bellows in the hole, no sealant needed.

Any more updates on the Tick Performance shifter? Trying to decide between that one and the Bowler unit.

No leaks! Been beating on it since the day it went in. I do recommend looking into the bronze vs plastic cups that the shifter sets down into. I wasn't aware they have issues but it was mentioned earlier in the thread. 3200 miles on it so far and loving it!

That's good to hear. Did you rely on their o-ring seal/gasket to seal it up, or did use something else?

I used the o-ring and also added a very small amount of gasket maker which has worked great so far.

I installed the Tick shifter...it seemed to work well enough. But after the first long drive it leaked, lots of fluid in the rubber boot on top, big puddle under the car. I'm waiting for an RMA to send it in for repair. Anyone else have this problem?

I hate to hear that. I have just over 4900 miles on the car now with no leaks. I guess its luck of the draw with this aftermarket now days.

Is your shifter in the rear or forward position? Mine was in the forward position.

Mine is in the forward position as well. Did you use any gasket maker? I added some to mine and let it set overnight before i drove any.

I tried the Bowler Nightstick and had problems with it leaking out of the top where the shifter comes out. Bowlers customer service was great, they sent me parts to replace the shifter stub with an updated design. That leaked also after just a few miles. I called Bowler again and this time they sent me a whole new shifter. This one started leaking within six miles. So I returned it and am waiting for a refund.

So I tried the Tick Performance shifter. I installed the shifter and their shroud that’s supposed to prevent oil from splashing onto the bottom of the shift stub. Took it for a drive and it leaked within 2 miles. I’ll be calling Tick Performance today and try to figure out my next step.

I’ve tried two of the best on the market and still leaking. In this thread most of the shifters on the market have had someone say they leak. Is it my bad luck or does everyone with a Magnum with a forward position shifter leaking?Name: IMG_1126.jpg

That forward position is really tough to seal up, but Bowler came up with a solution that worked for me. The first Nightstick they sent me leaked. We tried a couple fixes (including a replacement shifter), but for whatever reason, the silicone that was used in the polymer ball to seal where the stud goes through wasn't holding up in the front position (see photo). They ended up making me one with a hard epoxy instead of silicone, and it's been leak free for a year now. Although a hassle, Bowler was extremely responsive...the issue was fully resolved in two weeks from the first time I contacted them. Name: IMG_7256 (1).jpeg

      Alponcho,

Bowler sent me a new stub shaft with sealant on the polymer ball and that didn’t fix it. Then they sent me a whole new shifter and that didn’t fix it either. Their customer service was great, they just didn’t fix my problem. I appreciate your feedback on the problem.
