      Radio interference?

      So this topic is completely foreign to me, but Ive got a '72 suburban with an LS swap and one of those classic audio aftermarket set ups with a small amp, two front speakers, and two rear sub/speaker component boxes. I have a high pitched whine that directly corresponds to the RPM of the engine through all 4 speakers....Im running a modern GM, 1 wire alternator....I tried one of those "noise suppression kits" designed for the older GM alternators but it didn't do anything.

      Any help would be greatly appreciated!

      You have a ground loop. I'm betting you ran a power wire from the battery to the amp, but just grounded the amp to the body? Did you run the RCA's next to the power wire to the amp?

      Thats it...you pretty much head the nail on the head. So whats the fix? Im assuming grounding the amp to the battery as well? Move the RCAs to the other side of the car?

      Ground the amp to the frame .
      upgrade your factory grounds from batt to body 8 ga wire ,batt to block and batt to frame with at least 4 gauge
      You might be able to get away with moving them away from the power wire
      If not Buy some shielded RCA cables

      I appreciate the help! The battery is grounded to the block with a 2 gauge wire, and the block to the frame with one of those inch wide braided grounding straps. Both the battery and the frame ground are attached to the block on the same bolt....is that a problem? Ill also be sure to reroute the amp ground directly to the frame instead of the body.
