      tko600 install without kit

I was told by a transmission specialist that they make a 5 speed that will fit a lakewood bell housing with out an adapter. I have a centerforce flywheel and zoom clutch also and a centerforce crossmember that have less than 1000 miles on it. Since the only thing I would have to replace is the transmission drive shaft an shifter and clutch disk and possible the pilot bushing I would like to not buy a kit. I know I might have trans tunnel clearance problems, but I was told that the companies just trim the trans housing to clear. Is this true or is someone blowing smoke????

The new LGT-700 transmission will bolt right in if you have a 26 spline Muncie. If yours is 10 spline, you'll have to get a new disk. A TKO will work the same way, except you'll have to cut your transmission tunnel to make it fit.

We just did a 1966 GTO convertible Legend700 install and the transmission fit without cutting the tunnel.

Your hurdle will be the crossmember as the Legend700 transmission pad mount is 3.5" rearward and 1" up compared to a Muncie transmission pad mount.

www.5speedtransmissions.com has a lot of information on the install of the tko's into different cars. basic install is a 26 spline clutch disk, 31 spline yoke, move the crossmember back about 2 inches and shorten the drive shaft. plus they have shifters that work on factory consoles. Thanks for the help.

Our A-body TKO kit (you don't have to buy the full kit) we mill the top of the TKO's to clear the floor pan. The top caps are replaced with thinner billet aluminum caps. We also offset the shifter in the correct location to come out the 4-speed hole in the tunnel. TKO will work fine with all your parts you listed off. We sell tons of A-body kits some of them still need a little trimming on the tunnel some. Probably 1 out of 5 we sell.
