I've been watching this thread with great interests, as I'm about to start on a buddy's 65 Fastback with DSE front suspension and LS motor.

I've been looking at various fans and I decided to go with the C6 Corvette fan, mainly because it seems to be the right size, has a big 400w motor, and already comes prewired for the fan controller. There are various options available, but I saw the Dorman listed on Amazon for $80 so I couldn't pass it up. I was not surprised that it was made in Taiwan, given the low price, but who cares, last time I checked iPhones are made in Taiwan too, so country of original is no sign of quality (or the lack thereof).

It did indeed come with the right connector to mate with the fan controller, which is a big deal, since no one is able to locate a source for these connectors. Obviously, somebody at Dorman knows.

The other connector looks like a standard Metripack 800 3 cavity connector. This is where you connect power, ground, and pwm signal.

Here is the back side. The fan assembly is a beast and the fan blade is 16.5"

Here is the side that faces the radiator. I spun the thing by hand and you could already feel the air flow. But I guess most fans are like that...LOL

The nice part is that molded into the shroud is a place to mount the fan controller:

Just slip it under the tab and bolt it down. It even included a captured nut clip.

The plug fits the fan controller perfectly, but of course, the wires coming from the motor are too short, so that needs to be addressed. I know it was too good to be true, but for $80 my expectations were met.

Now I have to see about how to mount this beast.

How are you going to control the fan, do you send a pwm signal from the Holley ECU?

I am soooooooo jealous of that connector. I may buy the fan just for the connector! Can you give us a link to where you bought the fan?

I bought this a few days ago, just received it today. Haven't used any yet, but the kit with various sized is nice. One cool thing, is the colors they chose...."hot and ground", although clear is useful too. As far as your statement about needing smaller sizes, it has smaller than you're worried about: 3/32", 1/8", 3/16", 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2".
And it's not just "regular" heat shrink, it's adhesive as well.
      Nice storage case too.

I've been looking at various radiators, and I think I am going to get this one:

      http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speedw...tors,3557.html

It is 26" wide overall, and 19" high. I like the aluminum construction because I will be able to weld some mounts for the radiator directly to the tanks. I measured the fan shroud and the spacing for the mounts is right at 25", so it should work pretty well.

Today Ken sent me these pictures of the manifold top. He made a drawing and machined the top to mount the twin DBW throttle bodies.

I am pretty excited to get this back and mock everything up to see how it all fits.

I don't know why but it made me think of a Red Green design of sorts...

Great find on the vette fan and controller!

That top is looking pretty high tech. Though, part of me was hoping you'd go all hand drill and hole saw on it...

      Thank you!

I received the package from Ken today and I couldn't be happier. If he didn't offer to machine the top for me, I probably would have lost a finger trying to do this with a drill press, and a giant hole saw...LOL

In case anyone is wondering why the spacer is needed, here is an angle that shows what's going on. The motor of the throttle body extends past the mounting surface, so it needs to be raised.

When I ordered the Hi-Ram, I thought that I also needed to order the stud kit that is recommended. However, when I received it, there was already a stud kit included. Well, lucky for me, I kept the extra stud kit, because they work perfectly to mount the throttle bodies to the intake. They are perhaps a hair long, but good enough.

      Here is everything mocked up.

I am thinking that I need to take the top and the spacers and have them bead blasted to give them a cast appearance. Then either paint the intake or have it hard anodized.

Matching up those finishes will be a nice touch. Attention to subtle details is what makes your builds so cool, and your use of OEM parts when able to do so...

When I built my RX7 the swap kit for that was designed around 4th gen F-body motor mounts. I really liked the clamshell design that allowed for good vibration control and at the same time are almost indestructible. So for this build I decided to use the same motor mounts.

The oil pan is a front sump pan from a 04-06 Pontiac GTO. These pans are almost identical in dimension to the stock early small block Ford pans.

Customer headers are not in the budget and from doing some research it didn't look like any stock manifolds were going to work very well. The issue is the width, not only between the shock towers, but also down at the frame rails. The Cougars (and Mustangs) had a rear steer arrangement and the steering box sits right along the frame and creates problems for exhaust routing.

I decided to try the Holley cast exhaust manifolds because they are narrow, tuck really close to the engine and are designed to dump the exhaust towards the rear of the engine. The engine had to be offset a little towards the passenger side in order for the exhaust to clear the stock steering box.

wish i explored the holley manifolds before i cut my 67 mustang to shreds to make the LS3 camaro manifolds work. the way my engine sits i cant use the factory cross brace but the stock manual steering has lots of room.

who knows. maybe i will switch to the holley manifolds. either way, the floor in my car needed to be cut out for the 4l60e.

I got a few more goodies today from Speedway. The radiator came packaged very well, and for being $129 I can't complain. It is all aluminum with welded tanks. I went this route so that I can weld mounting tabs to the radiator to hold the fan assembly. The bottom hose is angled a little and is 1.75" while the upper hose is straight and 1.5", which is typical Chevy size.

This gives you an idea of how massive the fan is. Height wise the radiator is perfect, but obviously the mounting tabs for the fan are going to need some fiddling.

Here is the fan rotated 180 degrees, just to see what it might look like.

I think the first orientation will work out better. I will trim the fan shroud around the lower hose and weld some tabs on the radiator for mounts. On the other side, the mounting tabs extend past the tank, but I think I can weld tabs to the side of the tank to secure the shroud. Should work out pretty well.

Also picked up a T56 remote bleeder hose. Anyone that has ever installed a T56 knows what a pain it is to reach the bleeder once the trans is in place. This will allow me to route the bleeder out of the trans where it is more easily accessible.

I also picked up the nifty little brackets that I will attach under the car which will hold the bleeder assembly in place and out of the way.

Andrew in the first position could you use threaded rods with spacers where you mount the radiator then out through the fan shroud to mount it? Definitely going to keep the motor cool with that fan.
