Wheel suggestions for my 67' GTO

Well before next spring im looking to update my wheels/tires to a 17 or 18" setup. This kind of stuff takes time and planning so i like to get my decisions down a long way in advance. There are a million wheels to choose from it seems and I certianly havent seen them all, so its nice to get others ideas and in the process, maybe I'll find something I hadn't come across before. I really like the vintage looking VWW V-40's with flat caps but im open to ideas. Maybe a black centered wheel like a C5 Coy would compliment the vinyl top? Im also on a reasonable budget so unfortunately forgelines and other very high end stuff are out of the question. So if this is your GTO, what wheels would you put on it?? 17's or 18's? Im in the process of getting parts for an SC&C stage 2 plus setup so the car will sit lower.

      Heres the car....

This may sound kind of old school but I've seen the original style Pontiacwheels remade in 17 or 18ish with more width and I like that you need to do a double take on the car because the wheels are bigger.

Yes, Billet Specialties Dagger G. I like the chrome too. This is a 2-piece so you could get custom backspacing, but they are about $2k.

Bob's GTO is awesome. I didn't know they made the Daggar in grey. See this thread is already paying off!

The problem with them is they come in minimal backspacing and I don't think they have a lot of room for bigger brakes. I don't think the C5 stuff fits. I saw them on a 64 Lemans @ DesMoines Goodguys and they looked fantastic though. They are still an option and the price is great!

I have Intro pentia for mine in the 17" variety as I like a little more side wall.
I'm doing 245 front and 315 35 rears. I just painted my frame tonight so it will be 2 or 3 weeks till I set the body back on the frame ( for actual pics). But I did try posting a pic of mockup from my phone but I must not be that advanced... when I fire up my laptop I'll attach..

Negative. And that name is like a dirty word around here. IMO that was their best looking wheel though. NewGen which was the wheel brand is now owned/run by someone else but I haven't heard much frm them.

Check out the ETlll wheels, they are vintage style. I think they would look great on that car and are nicely priced. With that size of car I'd stick with 18" and stay with a satin/brushed type center (no gloss, no polished/chrome)

I did it my self... I could not afford to spent that money for something I could do myself...

      On the frame:
      1. made gusset from the frame rail to the upper control arm bracket piece.
      2. I put on a 1 1/4 round tubing between the shock mount plates
      3. I measured 1 3/4 from the inside of the frame rail and cut the frame.
      4. I used 1 1/4 x 2 rectangular tubing and build an internal webbing and welded along the sides inside the frame and plug welded on the back side and the front side.
      5. i straightened and fitted the original side rails and reused for the holes and appearance. For strength I welded all side and plug welded to the internal structure I installed.. A lot of grinding but fairly easy.
      6. i then reduced the frame rail from the front with about a 6" overlap over the "new" side plate.

      on the body:
      1. Split rear tubs
      2. Added a 2.5" strip, I wanted to make sure I had enough room for anything in the future. currently a little more than 14.5" inside dimension
      3. Finished fairly slick inside and out with grinding and some filler
      4. Put body color raptor on entire bottom of car and in trunk area. ( had to replace left quarter, so I hope the raptor to reinforce the thinner quarter panel...

I got the wheels from Matt's Bowties.. Told him I wanted as much dish as possible and what brake setup I had. He did the rest.. Really easy to deal with! Then narrowed my rear end to fit the wheels while giving myself an additional 1/4" clearance per side from my original rear end..

Right on! Did you happen to take a lot of pics of this process? I'm sure there would be a big group on here that would love to see a step through, budget way of doing this. I'm kicking it back and forth. For me its probably completely unnecessary but nothing looks better than a fat tire behind these cars.

I agree with you on the no polish centers. Do you have a quick link to the wheels you are talking about. I did a search but dint come up with anything in 18"?

I do have a lot of pics and if any one is interested would love to share.. I thought about doing a thread but didn't know if it was going to take 6month or 6 years.
I had a target of LS Fest but doesn't look like I'm going to make it but due to weak business and finishing the car vs. actual time..

Absolutly do it. I'm sure there's a lot of folks that would love to avoid the premium that the kit costs. I just looked and the prices have gone up on them. They want $825-950 for the steel kits and $495 for the wheel tubs now!! How much do you have in material doing it yourself?
