Looks great so far.

With the air intakes, what type of filter will be used? Is it a cone filter in a box/duct to pull through the fog light holes?

Only reason I ask is because you would be amazed how much air WONT just blow through the holes. Granted with the turbos it won't matter much, just something I came across from past experiences. We pulled the fog lights on a viper to run the GTS-R brake ducts and found the air flow due to a rather large boundry layer at that point, combined with a curved surface meant airflow was lame at best.

Now we just stuff air:air intercoolers behind them... With the right "mods" it gets better airflow than one mounted in front of the radiator.

and bah, don't worry about the radiator overflow. You shouldn't need to open it much at all once the system is fully burped.

Keep up the great work

here is a series of pics of the air inlet-it's a $5.00 Fram Filter. I think it's one of the cheapest parts on the truck

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

the box sits on the core support - exposing about 1/2 of the filter

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

this gives you the basic idea of the curve / inlet

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

finsihed product

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

looking straight down from above - now we just need to connect the elbow off the turbo to the airbox

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

got any pics i would love to see more idea's

Good Morning All,

Last Week sure was a busy one.
Headed down to Ar Kansas to see the progress on Dad's 57.
Check out the link.
http://www.lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php4?t=5538

Dave was able to complete most of the tin work for the Bed.
Without this piece it would have looked incomplete.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

View from the underside.
This was a tough picture to take since it was sitting on the floor.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Mounted the charcoal canister.
I don't want my garage to smell like fuel.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Instead of making the bracket simple.
Dave took the time to make it pretty and simple.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

The linkage is all hooked back up.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

You can see the bell crank that we are using to change the pull.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Cable come out parallel to the manifold.
Still one more bracket to make on the Manifold
and one on the firewall.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Just a Quick look through the Back Wheel

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Have to keep the family involved.
We had my daughter tape up the Billet Specialties Column.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

We are trying to lay out the gauges and switches.
Also include will be a Cig lighter for the needed Radar Detector.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Just a design layout for the Dash. Nothing is set in stone.
We are going to wait to see what Bob Thrash comes up with.

Found a suitable location for the American Auto Wire Highway 22 Harness.
This is a very nice kit indeed. Can't wait to wire it.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Also found the location for the MSD box. But forgot to take the picture.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

I quess your going to have to wait till next week to see where we mount that.

Quick Update.

I flew down to Ar-Kansas over the weekend to meet with Kenny & the guy's at Kenny Davis Hot Rods. I have a little medical problem which is going to delay the build. Seems the Doctors feel it's important for them to remove the tumor in my neck something about cancer. Which means this is going to delay the truck by 4 weeks which puts it ready for paint in Late December. This is about the time the Riddler car will be ready for paint and bodywork at Troy's. So my truck would be delayed by at least two months waiting to get into Rad Rides body shop. So I needed to find a painter that is comprable in my eye's. Thus the reason I choose Kenny, I feel like this is going to be a very good Match.

The main reason I don't want to delay the truck by another 2 months is i want to make sure it's ready for Hvaoc in 07 and i actually make it to Sema in 07.

3 weeks from today i'll be in surgery and the bad news is i won't be able to talk for 3 day's - EAK !! and if you know me this is going to be very hard for me. My wife told me she is looking forward to the peace and quiet.

Good Morning,

Dave worked on the Dash this week. It's starting to look like a dash again.

First - mounted behind the dash is the Highway 22 Fuse Box.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

You can see the Vent mounted on the Passenger Side of the truck.
We are still going to install one more vent for the Passenger highlighted in black.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Here is a close up of the Drivers Side.
All of the switches have been reverse mounted. The goal is to keep the dash ultra smooth.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

This is what the backside looks like.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Dave had to change the way we mounted the dash so the hardware wasn't visible.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

The MSD box is mounted in it's new home.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

One of the members on syty.net sent this trick piece.
http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=42425
This one will be installed on project 663

Good Mornig All,

I would like to welcome Vintage Air to the sponsor list.
We look forward to working with them on this project.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

We wanted a control unit for the dash that would work with our project.
It's ultra clean and simple looking.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Previously installed in the Vintage Air Heat, Cool, Defrost Gen II Mini

Good Morning All,

Well, this will be the last update for a couple weeks as the big day is Tuesday Morning.

Pictures don't do it Justice. Man are these tires huge!

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Notice the tire is almost the same height as the body line at ride height.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Just like the picture.
PS that is one bad viper hanging in the air. About 300k invested so far.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

just a quick side shot.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

okay last one i promise

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Now you can see what the chassis looks like.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Here is all of the Air Ride Equipment

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Dave installed the new Vintage Air Billet Defrost Ducts.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Underside view. The ducts are temporally being held in by sheet metal screws.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

A little more trimming was needed on the dash so it would clear the door panel.
Although we are not using the stock door panels they were used as a guide

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Yep that's a bunch of guy's looking at an upside down bed

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Yep that's the stink can there Dad.

wow! what a build! that's going to be an awesome one-of-a-kind s-10 for sure! i'd love to work in a shop that builds stuff like this.

by the way, just one suggestion that you might like: you said you were adding a cigarette lighter for the radar detector. when i bought my current 89 s-10, the power plugs on stuff like radar detectors wouldn't plug in well into the factory cigarette lighter hole. so i went to the scrap yard and pulled a set of "accessory 12-volt outlets" from a newer s-10 and swapped one of them in place of the "cigarette lighter" so the plugs would fit in better and make better electrical contact. it was also nice that they had little plastic caps that came with them to cover up the holes when not in use. if you decide to go this route, i know that many of the newer (mid-90's and up) gm vehicles came with extra accesory outlets like that, so you should have no problem finding them at your local scrap yard or at your local gm parts dealer.

last but not least, i hope your surgery goes well. look at it this way, it's just another bump in the road!!

tell me more about this. I think i am going to do a turbo ectoec 4cyl in something. I am really not sure what but i want to build something differnt. first off its good to know your doing good and are talking and all, i was supposed to be notified in my email when someone posted on this thread but that has quit working lol
anyway, awesome updates, looks like its coming along good, man that frame looks insane and the defroster vents are very unique i like them.
anywho about the TT motor, im not real sure what to tell you except im thinking i might go with a 3.4 block instead with all internals(except forged of course), heads, and intake from a newer 3400 series motor like in the 00-04 malibu's and impala's. the 2 turbos i will be using are in my sig, and i would love to swap to a T56 transmission. The motor will probably run off a Holley Commander 950 and MSD ignition box, 7-9 psi on a street tune, 12-14 psi on a play tune, 18-22 psi on a full race tune, then set up one more tune to run on 103 octane with a 5 gallon cell in the bed to hold the 103:D
i got one of my friends to make flow charts and looks like i will hit full boost about 4500 RPM's, but should be good until about 6000 or so. i dont really know much else at the moment, like i said this is still all on the drawing board, before me and my friends got bored and started thinking about this i had planned on doing a 425-450rwhp LS1/T56 swap with suspension upgrades and such, and it still is in my mind just for the simple fact I LOVE V8's!!!!! i love the sound, the feel of the power and torque, the sound of a loping cam u know all that fun V8 stuff haha, and i would love to see the looks on peoples face when they hear the V8 and think oo carbed 300hp V8 and after giving them a very unexpected run popping the hood and seeing a fully functioning LS1 and the power its making. im not real sure im liking both ideas, but your truck is where i got alot of inspiration for the TT motor. It will probably boil down to when i have the money and what im in the mood to do that day as to what motor i order for my truck haha(unless some company or someone gets in contact with me about the TT motor which i highly doubt). But the down side to the TT is i would probably only get about 400hp out of it on my budget(take lots more money to get much more) and my plan is the day i park it to pull it out of the garage running and ready to go on its first cruise in 365 days! Including, motor, paint, interior, stereo(about 5000 watts of stereo and 400-500 pounds of subs, amps, batteries, wires and box in the bed...i look at it as traction improvement not a E.T. decreaser) and drivetrain, quite ambitious but i figure if i go ahead and get all my stuff ready then park it 365 days should be plenty :D
well sorry to hijack your thread got a bit carried away. anyway keep us updated on the truck but more importantly your health, will be praying for a quick recovery!

syborg tt
11-11-2006, 07:19 AM
not to worry on the hi-jack.

If you don't mind may i offer some advise - LSx motor is the way to go. They are reliable and easy to find. Plus they are cheap. I have upwards of 40 grand in my engine and intercooler set up. Just think i could have saved 30 grand min by going v8.

however my goal was to have a tt motor and the cost wasn't considered i just went head strong and never looked back

91sonomast
11-11-2006, 05:11 PM
haha i like your idea, and i am thinking back to the LS1, with a Weiand or FAST intake and bit bigger TB, cam, full length headers and exhaust, injectors, and a few other little toys and i should be touching 425 on motor easy! But i love the TT ideas haha but im strongly thinking the LS1, hope you are recovering well!

Okay i'll post some pics - what the heck

I'm my absence Dave was kind enough to order all of the stainless steel fitting for the brakes.
All $600.00 of them I hope this includes the brake lines.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Kevin (who's Kevin) retapped the Masters so we could use these fitting on the them.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Once again Kevin put a couple tabs on the frame for the brake line.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

You can't really see the thru-frame piece but it's really cool.
ps - this is the rear brake line.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Yep Kevin welded a tab on the Manifold to hold the FPR

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Pictures not that good but Kevin welded on the Billet Specialties oil bung.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

One more Bung on the front of the intake Manifold.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Kevin Made the lids for the Intake boxes.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Okay I think Derrick made the little bracket and Kevin welded it.
We just wanted to add something simple to keep the bar from moving up and down.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Dave finished the dash sides. It actually looks like a factory dash at first glance.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Kevin made the holes adjust able for the remote wiper so we could get the wiper arms perfectly centered.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Okay last picture and it's really hard to see what was done.
Dave welded in a piece of tubing to the inner fender to add some strength.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

I hope everyone had a great Thanks Giving and more pics to come next monday.

I'm new here, but I've read and looked at every page on this thread. I love looking at pictures of fabrication.

Paint or Cover with fabric?

Cover it with fabric. To me, a covered dash makes the interior seem more comfortable. A hard painted dash makes the interior seem un-confortable even if you have the best seats in the world. I feel there is nothing like a well wrapped dash in leather or vinyl. The hard painted look should be left for imports with fully glassed interiors. Stiches look way better then anything painted interior wise.

Just my .02

s10kool
12-10-2006, 01:50 PM
I would paint it and do away with all the plastic interior trim and make metal trim in its place to give it a 30's to 50's style full paint and metal interior that you never see in a later model rig and do it in your two tone colors with your logo on the passenger side of dash.

12-16 Update - Inner Fenders Design

Okay I've been battling this in my mind for weeks if not months.
I wanted something different yet functional and I think we've got it.

This is the basic shape of the inner fender.
We should have plenty of clearance turning the wheel.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Here is the Ariel View.
Don't forget there is a 3" Elbow that leads down to the turbo.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

The look from the core support.
We may need to scallop the inner fender just a little for the turbo.
It's hard to tell in the picture but the Turbo is 1.5" from the inner fender.

View from the Drivers Side

Merry Christmas to all,

It's been a long time coming and they are finally complete.

It's hard to believe that after making at least 15 different chipboard versions
we finally have Inner Fenders.

This gives you an idea how much of the Fenders structure needed to be removed to make room
for the tire when the truck is lowered.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

You can see how the inner fender is mounted to the firewall.
Mounting from the underside hides all the hardware in the engine bay.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Dave beed rolled the Inner Fender to add strength.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Close up view of the front of the inner fender.
We still have to drill 2 access holes in the front of the fender to remove the air boxes.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Quick Picture with the Turbo and Downpipe installed.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

The engine bay with both inner fenders. I am very happy with the Final product.
You can tell there custom but yet they look stock and maintain the original goal of the truck to make it appear as a factory prototype.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Air Inlet from the Intercooler has plenty of clearance.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Dave had to reroute one of the air intake tubes to get around the new inner fender.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

We finally made the new lower column mount.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Kevin mounted the Power Steering Tank from Billet Specialties

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

It was hard but we finally found a location for the a/c drier.
See if you can guess where it's mounted.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Dave also mounted the hood pin in the core support.
Ron & I are working on the Skuff plate for the hood.

Good Morning All,

Okay I haven't had time to work on the truck the last two weeks.
Seems working on the Garage has taken precedence. It's very hard to be in the garage when it's 20 degrees.

I needed to build an attic so I could have a place to put the parts once I disassembled the truck.
So plans are to build an attic over the front half of my garage.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Sixteen twenty foot 2 x 8's, ten sheets of 1/2" plywood & twenty-one eight foot 2 x 6's later we have an attic.
Next time I plan to get some friends to help. Those 20 foot 2 x 8's are brutal to lift by your self.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Eight more Ten foot 2 x 6's for the vaulted ceiling (need the height for the lift).
Did I mention I hate ladders let alone working at 12 feet in the air?

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Now it's time for the itchy stuff.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Okay the back half of the garage is Insulated.
Now I need to put up a temporary wall and insulate the new attic floor.
I almost forgot -- I really need to clean up this mess.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Okay parts update.
The Mallory Crank Trigger for the project came in today.
Thanks to Mike Lee at Race Proven Motors for the support.
www.raceprovenmotors.com

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Temporary Curtain to keep the heat in the back half of the garage.
Wait till you see the permanent curtain.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

It's all organized and ready to work.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

So in the end.
16 - 2 x 8 x 20 foot boards
21 - 2 x 6 x 8 foot boards
10 - 4 x 8 x 1/2" sheets of plywood
3 - 8.6' x 11.6' Tarps
1 - Attic Ladder
1 - Fluorescent Light
4800 Staples (arm really hurts)
One Hammer Stapler
6 Rolls of R-13 Insulation
5 Rolls of R-19 Insulation
146 Pro Vents for the Vaulted Ceiling (not foreseen in the budget)
2 - Craftsman Rolling tool chests (also not in the budget)

It's complete and I'm to tired to work on the truck.
Did I also mention my wife never complained once during this project and all the hours I spent working in my garage.

After Coating and before Coating.

The piston coating is a "cermet thermal barrier coating" designed for high temperature/pressure applications and is especially suited for piston domes in forced inducted and nitrous motor applications.

Guy and Crew at Rockford Racecraft are getting ready to inspect the block for external flaws.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

They found some flaws that would have to be taken care of before it could be painted.
See the Left Hand side of the block.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Just a close up view.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Needed to get the temporary hardware organized. We plan to install all new hardware on the truck.
We will keep you posted as to whom we choose.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Had to put the motor together so I can work on the Turbo support brackets.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Added a couple more shelves to the rack for parts.

Good Morning All,

Sorry work has really been kicking my butt the last two weeks.
Still working on the truck instead of sleeping.

Guy cleaned up the burs and casting flaws on the block.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

The front of the block was pretty nasty. Looks very good now.
Can't wait to paint the block.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Put all the cladding back on the truck. Getting it ready for final Fit.
Only one piece of cladding left to make in Fiberglass.
So I headed off to VFN Fiberglass.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Dennis over at Hi Speed Welding Remade the Grille insert in Steel.

Good Morning All,

The truck is in Limbo right now.
I need to buy an enclosed trailer so I've spent all of my spare time looking for one.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

In the meantime the Guy's at Rockford Racecraft have assembled the short block.
All the parts getting ready for there new home.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

The infamous v6 Billet Crank.
For you v8 guy's these only take 6 to 9 months to get and cost a small fortune.
$3000.00

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

The Bowtie Block came from GM with ARP Studs.
Saves a little money there but then again the block wasn't cheap either.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

The Crank Resting in it's new home.

Good Evening All,

This has been a very long week and a very sad Week.
http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=46822
We lost a great guy in the SyTy Community and he will be Dearly missed.

One of his last post over on syty.net was in my build thread. Dave asked if I would adopt him.
The answer is yes but I think you a little to old to be my son and no you can't drive my truck.
So you are going to have to sit in the passenger seat.

The seat is yours Dave - gonna miss you big guy.

Okay I will try to go to back to the updates.

The New Head Gaskets arrived

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Getting ready to rip the truck apart again.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Don't try this at home alone -- not a good idea.
Really I am going to buy a lift for my garage.

Wait I have an idea anyone want to sponsor me.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

The Bed off and on it's body work stand.
Looks like I am going to need to contact Caleb and ask him if he set it up for 7 foot tall body men. :dunno:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Chassis sitting naked.
Actually I started doing a hardware inventory and it's time to get some new nut's and bolts.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Decided to take a few Pics of the chassis while it was apart again.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Just another angle of the rear back half

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Tom stopped by on Sunday to help me put the motor back in the truck.
Yep -- missing more bolts time to call Billet Specialties.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Fuel cell located back between the rails.
Yep missing some more bolts.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

This has been the hardest post that I have ever done.
Farwell Dave we are all going to miss you.

It all looks great Marty! Times like these make you think and realize the car isn't the most important thing there is..... (allthough we tend to think so sometimes)

I know the accident made me think, I will be even more carefull in the future when working on my car.

Good Evening All,

What a weekend. Stopped by Rad Rides on Saturday to see the progress on the car there building
to compete for the Riddler Award. Wow is all I can say I promise I will post pics next week.

Okay back to the update.
Mocked up the interior to see what it would look like.
My Goal is to make it look like a Factory Prototype

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

The Factory Seats have been recovered in Leather & Suede.

Billet Door Sills - I Also have Billet Sill Plates to protect the paint.
Working on an Idea for the Side Bar.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Quick Shot of the Dash.
The Dash will be leaving tomorrow morning to get body worked and painted.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Ordered some parts from Lokar to compliment the Interior

Door Handles - I was going to go black but i need to get an accent color in the door panel

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Cable releases for the door latch.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Inside door handle pulls.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Billet "Black" Gas Pedal. It compliments the Wilwood brake pedal nicely.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

I want to thank Eric at Lokar for helping me out.

That's all - Have a great weekend.

Put the Cab back on Saturday Afternoon in between errands and go-cart racing.

Working on the new Dash Layout.
Looks like I may change the Gauge color and go silver background instead.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Tom was kind enough to send me all my material to match my seats.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

That is what's left of 2 really big Cow's

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

However, due to schedule's and deadline conflict the truck is now being

Good Afternoon all,

Okay it's time to let the Cat out of the Bag officially.
Last Friday Night we packed up the trailer and headed to Nebraska.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

I wish you could see the front of the trailer -- it's packed with parts.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

So you ask what's in Nebraska? The "Recovery Room" is in Nebraska.
This truck isn't ready for Interior is it. Nope !!

My father and I figured we might as well kill two birds with one Stone.
Kenny was dropping off the 57 at Tracy's - so we figured we should just meet at Tracy's.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

I'm pretty excited to be working with Kenny Davis Clan.
They are great group of guy's and so far we are having a blast picking on Kenny.

Good Day All,

I would like to welcome our new Sponsor - Nitrous Express.
Brian, noticed the truck and said that we needed to work together and I agreed.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

www.nitrousexpress.com or [email protected]

Our plans are to build an Intercooler chillier similar to the kit Jerry offers for the Syclones.
However the new kit will be custom built to our Intercooler.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

While were in there we figured we might as well add a little more go-go juice to the motor.
We still haven't decided which kit were going to use but I am certain Brian has something up his sleeve.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Guy has been steady working on the Motor.
Collecting parts and working on some old parts that needed some TLC.

Way back in the day (April 2002) I was able to locate a sheet metal Moroso 2 Piece main seal Oil Pan.
Trust me it was very hard to Find.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Dennis over at www.highspeedwelding.com trimmed the front cross member (August 2004) so we would be able
to remove the oil pan just in case there were problems with the motor. It's much easier to pull a pan then pull a motor.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Dennis added some Simple Bracing to the crossmember for Strength.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

The Guy's at Rockford Racecraft welded a new pick up to the oil pump to ensure proper oil supply.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

The pan has been stripped down and it heading to Kenny's so we can put in the oil return lines.
Once were done with the pan it's heading back to Dave at Comp Fab so we can clean up all of the Welds.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Plenty more in store in the next few months.

Okay time for the real update.

Slid the truck forward from the back of the shop and spent a little time putting it all back together again.

That's Travis looking at the truck. Yep it's low !!

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

If you've ever met Kenny you know he likes them low and slammed to the ground.
We needed to lower the rear just to make him feel comfortable.
Yep it's low enough.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Side shot of the rear tire tucked in the wheel well.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

That's Kenny drawing on the front cover.
We need to make an opening for the Intercooler.
Ps. That Kenny guy is really good with a Marker.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Hanging the doors trying to get everything straight before they start doing all of the body work.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

By the end of the day the doors looked pretty good the fenders were back on and we all came to an agreement on the colors and finishes on the truck.

Plenty more to come in the near future.

Did i mention that he took a red scotch brite pad to my wheel.

It sure was a good time trying to come up with all of he colors and finishes for the truck. Thus the reason why Kenny hit the wheel with a the scotch brite pad.

Okay I know we've been a little sleepy with the updates. But not to worry were working on the trucks. Just trying to gather parts for the engine.

Guy at Rockfordracecraft has been working with Jessels on the Lifter and shaft mount rockers. Once we have those we should be pretty close to sealing up the motor.

On a side note Ron ( Wilson Muscle Cars ) and & I have been workng on the locking versions of the hood pins. We just want to have options.

The scuff plates will be the same price as our original design. $100 + $10 shipping and handling. I bought the Spectre hood lock kit 42613 at Auto Zone for (I think) $35 That you will have to pick up locally.

Not trying to be a wet blanket here; I think the locking pin is an awesome idea. I just thought that that style key is the easiest to bypass. Aren't they universal in their design and not unique in their 'keycode' as opposed to normal house lock style keys? We use that style lock and key on the classified hard drives at my job. Policy states we still have to lock them in a vault when not in use. Have you cheked into this? I just do not want you guys to put a bunch of locks out there that are easy to bypass.

The Key lock is industry standard for the after market. They are, as far as I know, not a universal key. The key that came with the kit will not fit in my computer lock. They do have a unique pattern. These were designed to accent an existing aftermarket lock (we are not producing the lock). We only sell the scuff plates.

That's cool to hear.

It would appear the security of these round keys have improved since last I saw one from supposedly two different locks open them both. I just cringe at the memory of youngsters easily bypassing the round keys of coke machines.

Does the manufacturer offer any sort of guarantee to the level of their security? That way any defects can be deflected to them and not absorbed by you. Just how my mind works. I hope I am helping here.

We are not selling the lock set only the scuff plates. We made a prototype at the request of members on this site and others who wanted a locking version of our original scuff plates.

We developed them to go from this

to this

Good Day All,

I know it's shocking actually it's amazing.
We have Pictures - only 3 but we actually have Pictures.
Yahooooooo!!!

This is the first Photo (using the term photo loosely here)
I think it's the side of the truck with some string running down it.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Yep I was correct -- it's the side of the truck.
The Guy's are actually working on aligning the bed width with the cab width.
This is not for the faint at heart

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

The side has been pulled out to match the widest part of the cab.
Next, they are going to cut the back of the cab and pull it out to match the side of the bed.
Our goal is to have a perfectly straight line down the side of the truck.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

I can't wait to see it in person.
But for now I will just have to live with Pictures.

ps - not to worry new camera is on the way.

Good Morning All,

The Guy's at Kenny Davis Hot Rods have been hard at work with way to many projects.
Dads 57 is back at the shop and the Camaro they are working on is just incredible.
Looks like it's time for another road trip to see all of them.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

All the hard work is paying off, I can add one more hat to my collection.
We wanted a gauge set that would compliment the truck's theme and Autometer was the only Choice.
The new Automaker's gauges will look right at home in the Dash of Syborg.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

It's hard to believe that all but one of these gauges are going to fit in the Dash.
3655 Sport Comp II Water Temp
3692 Sport Comp II Volt
3656 Sport Comp II Oil Temp
3603 Sport Comp II Boost (mechanical)
3663 Sport Comp II Fuel Pressure
3653 Sport Comp II Oil Pressure
3616 Sport Comp II Fuel Level
3688 Sport Comp II Speedo
3697 Sport Comp II Tach

Mounted in the Center Consule
3657 Sport Comp II Trans Temp

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Every Guage was specifically choosen.
Five of the Small Guages are Full Sweep / Two of them are Partial Sweep
The two Partial Sweep guages will be mounted in the outside triangle of the dash layout.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

I'm really looking forward to seeing if we can hit 160mph with this mini-truck.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

It looks like the cab is off and heading to the Powder Coater.
The entire inside of the cab will be coated Satin Black.
Once the cab is back the outside corners will be filled with lead to smooth the gap between the cab and the bed.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

The chassis moved off to the side waiting to meet up with the body again.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Wait, that's the Chevrolet Gate - what happened to the other gate.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

That's it for today. Maybe I'll post and update on the Garage project I started in January.

ps - wait till you see the sweet T-shirt that Autometer sent me.

Good Morning All,

Quick Update.......

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

I met with the guy's from Air Ride at Indy Good Guy's.
After Talking with Jeremy we decided that we needed to upgrade the suspension on Syborg to the new Level Pro system.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Normally I would show you pictures of the actual parts but then we all know Kenny's not good with Pictures.
So the good guy's at Air Ride sent me there catalog images just in case.

Below is the new ARC4000L System.
It has some pretty cool features instead of me telling you in my words I figured it would be easier to just do a cut and past from Air Rides Site.

http://www.ridetech.com/productinfo/levelpro.asp

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

There new Pocket size remote control.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

The new LevelPro™ leveling system is the most advanced air suspension control system available today.
It is the result of several years of development by “hands on” engineers and refinement in real world vehicles.

The LevelPro™ system uses a unique combination of ride height sensors AND air pressure sensors to quickly achieve your selected ride height.
By comparing the position of the ride height sensor to the air pressure the vehicle is leveled with no crossloading.

FEATURES
• More accurate leveling of ride height sensors in addition to air pressure sensors allows extremely accurate vehicle leveling with no crossloading

• Better air pressure sensors
New voltage based air pressure sensors eliminate EMI interference and grounding problems that can lead to inaccurate pressure readings and ride heights. This new voltage based sensor has more resolution [accuracy] and quicker response to allow faster and more accurate air pressure presets. It’s also smaller in diameter to allow direct installation into the RidePro® and BigRed solenoid blocks to eliminate remote mounting panels with extra lines and fittings.

• Easier viewing in bright light from any angle
VFD [vacuum florescent display] instead of an LCD [liquid crystal display]

• Ride-height-on-start
Each time the vehicle is started it will automatically go to highway ride height.

• Control panel programming
All programming [including the ride-height-on- start feature] can be accessed from the control panel so you can hide the ECU and still have easy access to all programming functions.

• 3 ‘1 touch’ ride height presets
Accessible from control panel.
These ride heights are programmed by a simple push and hold action similar to programming a radio station preset.
No secret sequence of buttons to push!

• Backlit soft touch silicone buttons
Easier actuation by feel, no diverting your eyes from the road to see which button you're pushing!

• Extruded aluminum ECU
More robust to avoid physical damage during installation

Good Afternoon All,

The cab is back from the Powder Coaters.
Kenny said it looks really good and he's very happy.

Instead of media blasting the cab to remove all of the paint they decided to cook it off.
How would you like to be in that oven?

He's got one of those Tripods and he still takes blurry pics.
Travis can you please help him or do I have to buy him one of those steady shot camera's?

Seems down south they will do anything for a great but shot.

Ps - I've spared everyone's eye's and painted in a longer shirt.

I don't visit much but I had to say this is an awesome build and what a great follow up with the thread. I passed out at page 12 last night (early morning, I should say) and just finished it now. Very nice work.

I wonder if the wire in the head is used as a support for the sand core to form around while it is cast.

here is a what a friend came up with

BTW found out what the wires in the heads are for, they're to minimize corrosion of the aluminum, seems they act to keep the reaction from dissimiliar metals to a minimum, in other words they kinda act like baking soda soda in battery acid , a catalyst to keep corrosion off the aluminum. Don't know the PHD way to explain it, but bottom line they're supposed to be in there.

here is a what a friend came up with

Galvanic Corrosion. Requires two dissimiliar metals (such as aluminum and iron) and an electrolyte (coolant). One element will corrode, saving the other. Think in terms of zinc dipped steel sheet- the zinc sacrifices itself to save the steel

Nope not going to worry about since were going to be running coolant.

dumb question of the day:

what is the difference between the sonoma and s10 as far as body parts? i can see the grille is different, but anything else? i want to build a track truck styled kinda like yours (ground effects, etc), but have a bunch of cheap s10's in the area. my thinking is that they could be easily converted.

sorry for the threadjack.
Michael

The difference between an s-10 and sonoma are the the grill, headlights and rad support for the front end (iirc they use the same hoods on the first gens). On the rear the tailgates are different. I believe syborg tt is using ss/syclone "ground effects", (correct me if i'm wrong on that). A few fellows around town have syclones and typhoons and they have said that finding new skirts are a pain in the butt. Aparently the most difficult to find is the front bumper/airdamn and the transition from the rear quarter to the rear bumper. As you may guess, if you do manage to find these pieces I have heard of them going for around a thousand dollars per section.

If I'm wrong, please correct me.

cheers, bbcc

bbcc - you are very correct.

However I'm using Sonoma GT cladding ( poor mans syclone - non turbo 2wd truck ). We've remade all of the cladding in fiberglass so if anyone was interested in doing the conversion they could do it.

ps - syclone & typhoon cladding is incredibly expensive.

Good Afternoon,

I'm a little late getting this e-mail out.

Kenny is really kicking butt on the body mods. He is making sure everything fits perfect.

Hard to tell from this picture but you can see Kenny has widen the rear cover to have a 3/16" gap.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Tailgate has been smoothed.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

You can also see the side of the gate has also been filled.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Cab is ready for Primer. The cab has been widened 3/16" to line up with the bed sides.

Yep, The bed has been extensively work to make sure t fits perfectly with the cab.

Next week the truck should look a little different as it will all be one color.

This is by far one of the coolest builds on this site, if not the coolest. You're doing something a lot of guys wanted to do with their beater S-series. I can't wait to see it finished and see some numbers from it.
