Good Afternoon All,
I've been working with Bob Thrash to come up with a car show display.
We are only planning to do a couple indoor shows but we need to have a display.

Hi Rick
Atually we are going to make it 16 x 20 this way there will be able to walk all the way around it and still get fairly close to it. I want people to be able to look at the truck.

I really had to chime in and say this is a very nice project. The attention to detail must have you pulling hair at times.
That indoor display is really nice. Don't forget some angled mirrors under there to really show off the work on the rear, its a shame that bed hides it.
I can't believe i read through all 1000+ posts in a single sitting(at work, no less). You've provided some much needed motivation for me to start another truck.

Thank you very much I really appreciate all of the kind words.
Wow all 1000 post in one day - how long did that take.

Wow, I remember reading about this truck years ago when subscribed to truck mags and was on this site pretty regular. I haven't visited for probably at least a year... what a nice read to come back to see it almost finished. VERY VERY nice project. I hope to have that amount of self control and dedication to get through something like this someday.

we use a screen pack filter thats similar to the grill mesh that Marty's using at work. It seems thick enough to be formed and hold a form we get it in sheets of 4'x2', thats what i intend to use for duct openings and as a "speed grill" alternative.

Maybe you talked about it earlier but I was intrigued by your mention of the charcoal canister. Can you tell us a bit about that ? What canister you are using and how it is plumbed into the fuel system ?
I assume you don't have a purge valve and associated logic in the FI computer and just have it passively plumbed. Please tell us a bit about how this is setup.
Tealm0nsta
03-11-2009, 07:49 PM
From what he posted previously the canister is tapped in to the tank as a vent and it appears to be a factory canister w/ a pretty bracket w/o any wiring to it since his computer doesn't require emissions monitoring. You can pretty much go to a junkyard and look through all the cars to find one that suits your needs for fittings and size. I like the fact that he put one on there, a lot of people will just throw a check valved vent on and forget about it.
Below are the 2 posts referencing the canister. I'm addicted to this thread and have scanned it many times looking at the things i can incorporate into my plans.
hope this helps.
Good Morning All,
It looks like i am going to break up yesterday's update into two e-mails
The Fuel Cell is almost Complete.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
You can see the baffles inside the tank. You can also see the pick up and the drain for the tank.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
The return line
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
The rest of the Baffle's
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Action Shot
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
You can see the tank fit's snug. Also the "X" is going to be for the vent to the Charcoal Canister
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Rear View - Lines up perfect with the bottom of the cladding - should make the belly pan look stock
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
just the last parting shot
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Mounted the charcoal canister.
I don't want my garage to smell like fuel.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Instead of making the bracket simple.
Dave took the time to make it pretty and simple.

TealMonsta - thank you very much for posting up the pics I really apreciate the help
Okay so here are a few more pics with explinations
You can see in this picture that the tank has a boat load of of interior baffles.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Way up high on the P-Side of the Tank Dave put another baffle
directly below the vent line. This is to help prevent fuel slosh or
shall we say that is the goal. Thes line will feed directly into the
factory first gen s10 Charcoal can.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
The vent tube leads to the Charcoal Can mounted directly adjacent to the vent.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
and yep you are correct currently it is just passively plumbed.
We did this on a friends Pro-Street Syclone and you can now come
back to the garage after a few days of storage and not be overwhelmed by the smell of gas.

First Off Billet Specialties makes one of the cleanest Serpentine Systems
Tru Trac Serpentine Systems
http://www.billetspecialties.com/product.asp?cid=23&scid=182
Our goal was to remove some of the lines under the hood to try to clean things up just a little bit.
I talked with the Scott over at Billet Specialties and the had me Contact DSE and order one of there pumps.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Mark at DSE stepped in and put together all of the parts I would need to swap in the new pump.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Two day's later all of the parts arrived and I headed over to Billet Specialties where they installed the new pulley.

Thank you.
Funny that has been the goal from the start. Bob Thrash did the first rendering and in all of the notes he added to the rendering it stated that the truck needed to look like a factory prototype.
So I've tried real hard to stick to what he had drawn.

05-19-09 Update - Mesh Grille
Good Afternoon,
I've had many question about the mesh grille and how it was built.
So today's post is about the grille.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Way back when, Kenny had the grille 3D scanned and from that Wood Bucks were made.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
The Mesh was cut and the laid on top of the wood form.
Then all you do is gentle hammer the mesh around the wood buck.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Trim the excess material and you end up with something that looks like this.
It's hard to tell from the picture but the mesh is in the same shape as the factory grille
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Cut out the old grille
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Here is how the grille looks installed in the truck.

Another close up to show how it lines up.

The truck started way back in 2002 and the chassis was actually completed
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Then my Daughter was born in 2003 and everything went on hold till 2005 ( no money ). I met Troy and the guy's at Rad Rides sometime in 2004 and kept saying to myself that I can build something like that. So the project re-started on May 05, 2005. So we just past the 4 year mark on this build or should I say re-do.
I've learned a bunch so the next project will be a little different and my goal would be to complete it in a years time.

Well not being one to leave things alone.
I finally decied to spent some money to finish up the curtain to seperate the front half of the garage.
I made a quick call to the guy's at Goff's Enterprise and they helped me order up the right Curtain Wall. It's a really nice piece, my only regret was not ordering it sooner.
I order the 2 curtain in two complete tracks so the curtains could pass by each other on seperate tracks. This allows me to keep half the garage covered at all times. re: hide the project car from street view.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
first thing to do is hang the tracks
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
then hang the curtains on the rolling hooks
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
and about 20 minutes later it's done
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
I ordered mine with a clear panel in the center so I could see out to the driveway and not feel like I was in a small garage.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
here is the number just in case anyone's interested. I worked with Ed and he was a pleasure to work with.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
In the end it took about 90 minutes to install by myself. My wife actually likes it because it make the garage look much cleaner.

Back to working on the Garage again. Like I said getting ready for the next project car.
I needed space for Parts and Tires. The plan is to suspend a shelf even with the attic area.
Dennis at Hi-Speed Welding (( www.highspeedwelding.com )) ordered me some heavy wall
2 x 2 Square tubing and welded tabs on the ends.
Spent about 2 hours sanding them smooth, getting them ready for paint.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
All painted in Chassis Black
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Picture of the center support brackets that will tie into the ceiling
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
I hung the first 20 footer, man is that hard to do by yourself. You can also see that the
center supports are already hung. Okay that was also a pain in the butt.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
There are three 3/8" lag bolts that tie the center supports in the ceiling rafters. I had to put in
two extra boards in the attic to anchor the center support.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Okay the shelf is up.
The center will be used for Tire Storage and the corners will be used for parts storage.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Still to do is build the uprights and I this time I am going to have the center supports

Just a question for my own edification - Goodguys Joliet's website indicates its for hot rods, customs, classics, muscle cars thru 72. How do you plan on getting in? As bitchin as your truck is, it's clearly not anywhere near old enough to meet that criteria.
Do you have an exhibitor's exemption or something? I'm just curious because I've always steered clear of GG shows because of the year-break restrictions.
I didn't know if there was a way around the rule, or if the GG folks really enforce the year restrictions, or do they care?
Just curious and thought you might have some inside info.

Good Morning All,
Yep, another post back to back.
The motor is back together and the headers are all brushed and look awesome.
I want to thank Race Proven Motors for setting us up with the primary's and Stainless works for all of the tubing.
But in the end the Credit goes to Dave at Comp Fab for building the final headers.

I'm much happier with the look of the exhaust now.

Now I am going to have to clean up the frame -- can you say dusty.

Hi Guys,
It's Friday and I am just finding a free moment to do a quick Update.
Since the nose came off the truck.
We decided the AC Condenser would look better in the darker color.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Kenny modified the AC Condenser brackets so they would clear the grille.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
These even a horn for those pesky drivers.

Good Morning,
The motor is back together and the color change has made a big difference.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Now that the motor is back together we contacted Nolan at www.campbellautomotive.com
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Nolan wrote us a complete Engine & 4l80e tranny tune for the Big Stuff 3.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
If your looking for someone to help you with your Big Stuff 3 tune make sure you call Campbell Automotive in Canada.
They went above and beyond to help us with the Truck.
These guy's are top notch !!
Kenny installed the program that Nolan sent us and the motor fired right up - First Try.
WOW !!
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Sorry I can't blame Kenny for the poor Quality of this picture as I am the one who took the picture.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Without the help of friends I am certain this truck could have never been built to this level.
Nolan and Campbell Automotive in Canada -- Thanks again you are the best.
Call them is you need help with any of your engine management problems. It could be the best call you make.

That camaro is going to be very nice, if the truck is any indicator. Curious though about the 1st link. It mentions sectioning the front fender to provide a more aggressive rake, hood clearances on early second fbodies are tight in stock form, just curious if that will become a problem, or if the motor is going to be sitting lower in the car, but then oil pans sit pretty low in those cars too.

New! Titanium Turbo Shield
Custom fit T3 & T4 Titanium Turbo Shields with LR Technology provide the ultimate means of reducing turbo lag while serving as
a superior heat barrier - shielding and protecting engine components, hoods and painted surfaces and offers a very cool looking carbon fiber look.
Made from pulverized volcanic rock then strained into a fiber material, Titanium Turbo Shields can withstand direct heat up to
1800 F and 2500 F radiant heat. This means retaining more heat in the turbine and less damaging underhood heat. The result is a cooler
air intake temperature and a boost in horsepower!
Stronger and more durable than other turbo blankets or shields, Titanium Turbo Shields include a hi-temp rated
silica insulation padding under the tight outer layer for extra added protection against extreme turbo-generated heat.
-Anchoring hooks are incorporated to secure shield
-Each Kit Includes: Turbo Shield, 2” x 15 ft roll of Titanium down pipe wrap,
two 14” stainless steel zip ties & fastening wire
-Shields are also sold separately

Is that Kenny? It only took him 4 years to learn how to shoot pictures? Guess you can teach an old dog...
Go borrow some money from a loan shark or something, we need to get this truck finished.

Good Day All,
As Christmas is getting closer I figured it's time to do an Update.
The orginal rendering that Bob Thrash did showed the truck as an OEM Concept Vehicle.
So staying with that theme it was important to find the right Seatbellts for the truck.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
When I was at Sema I met Steve and his partner from Seatbletplanet.
These guys are top notch and know more then you can every imagine about seatbelts.
www.seatbeltplanet.com
The main reason we choose the belts from Seatbelt Planet is they are NHSTA approved.
Something that your standard 4 or 5 point harness are not.
Just remember, if you are in an accident and the passenger in your car is not wearing a approved seatbelt
I am willing to bet your insurance company is going to have fun with you.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Another huge selling factor is there color selection, this is just a few that they had on Display at Sema.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Wait, is that a Syborg T-Shirt at Sema.
Very cool
T-Shirts are available @ Mac Ink

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Okay, here are the finished belts for Syborg.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Okay, we've been getting a lot of questions about the interior.
I figure it's time I start sharing some pics.

Back Wall of the truck is starting to take Shape.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Keeping with the OEM theme.
We choose Kicker for the Sound System.
Tracy is doing a great job adding all the little details to make everything look and feel OEM.

Good Afternoon All,
The snow at Tracy's shop has been brutal and since there has never been a
deadline on the truck I told him Family first and get to the truck when he has time.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
There are not many resources for good quality parts for truck owners.
So far LMC Truck has been a life saver they seem to have every part that we have been unable to find for this build.
Instead of Tracy making a headliner from Scratch I contacted LMC truck and ordered one of there ABS Headliners.
http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cst/full.aspx?Page=111
I originally ordered the headliner in black but as some of you know the interior color has changed.
Tracy removed the black material and prepped it for the new fabric.
It make life better when you start with a quality part.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Tracy & Jimmy recovered the headliner with the material that matches the interiors leather
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Installed in the truck - You can start to get a feel for what the interior is going to look like once complete.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
In order to make the dash look finished it was important to add a glove box door.
This will also help us if we need to get to the MSD box or the Big Stuff 3 ignition.

Good Morning All,
This post is dedicated to a good friend Dave 'Myclone"
Way back Dave said to me that he wanted to ride along in my truck once it was complete.
Unfortunately that will never happen Dave lost his life while under one of his trucks.
He was in a hurry and didn't properly set the vehicle on jack stands.
So please be careful when your working on your cars and safety first - ALWAYS !!!
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Kenny, Tracy & I all agreed the seats needed a little modification.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Close up view of the modified seat.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Not to worry Guys there will be a headrest.
Tracy made up this little templete and sent it over to Ron @ WMC Design.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
It's unfortunate that Dave won't be able to be my passenger.
But I will always remember him and know that he is riding next to me when I am driving the truck.

Good Morning All,
As you know the seats have been cut down.
In order to protect my brain bucket we came up with these innovative Headrest brackets.
Tracy made a cardboard template and shipped them to Ron at Wilson Muscle cars.
www.wilsonmusclecars.com (http://www.wilsonmusclecars.com)
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Ron took it to the next level and created the CAD files needed to actually create the brackets
both for the headrest and the roll cage.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Dennis over at High Speed Welding made the roll cage brackets for us.
www.highspeedwelding.com (http://www.highspeedwelding.com)
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
and Finally TJ over at IMI Manufacturing in Bolingbrook, IL cut the final brackets.
e-mail:
[email protected]
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
It took a real group effort to make these things and I can't wait to see how Tracy & Jimmy finish these off.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
I almost forgot - The UPS Driver that came back to pick these up at my shop so we I could get these to Tracy.

03-22-10 Update - Dude it's Done !!!
Good Morning All,
Tracy & Jimmy finished the Interior a couple weeks ago, I just haven't had time to post pictures.
I will do my best to post a bunch of pictures this week.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Tracy wanted to move some of Autometer Gauges out of the original Dash Surround.
Big difference the new dash surround houses 5 vs. the Original one that held 9.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
The Finished Product - much cleaner looking.

Good Evening All,
Sorry this post is so late.
My goal is to post every Mon & Thursday till you see the finished product.
Lets start from the beginning
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Dave @ Comp Fabrication built the entire dash out of sheetmetal.
As you can see from the above picture we needed the extra space.
We lost a bunch of real estate when the firewall was moved back.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
The dash mimics the Factory dash almost exactly.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Yet to install was the glove box - Not to worry that is where the interior guy's do there magic.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Making room for the Autometer gauges they removed from the Dash Surround.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
New Home - right under the Vintage Air controls.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Laying the material.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Stepping up the details on the dash with some trim.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Two more Autometer gauges in place.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
see ya next week - have a great weekend.

3 years an almost 5 months I've been following this. All Can say is Wow. Too see this car in person would take hours just to take in every little detail. And they would miss all of this, the stuff they can't see.
Keep it up, I can't wait to see this project complete.

Good Morning All,
So what do you do when you have a good looking center console that no longer fits the quality of the build and the future interior.
You tell the guys at Recovery Room Interiors to have at it and let them see what they can come up with.
Taking everyone way back to the beginning.
This is what we started with.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
When we started building the Interior at Comp Fab it was important to the project that
we maintain the factory center consule that was specific to the Syclone, Typhoon & Sonoma GT's.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
First version of the Interior was really nice and we all thought the factory door panels were a little weak.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Starting with a clean slate -- the idea's started flying.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Not sure how the color changed to tan, I think I lost the coin toss with Kenny & Tracy.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
This is what we handed Tracy & Jimmy and said make it work.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
If you can remember back to the last post some of the gauges came out of the dash surround which means
they need to find a new home in the center consule.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Recovering the stock consule might sound like an easy task.
I assure you it takes time and skill to get stitches to line up this nice.
Did I mention that laying the leather this tight and smooth is also a talent?
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Finished gauge pod or should I say almost finished.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Not sure if you remember this original dull black shifter surround.
It's amazing what a little color can do.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Details - Simple Pin Punched material adds texture to the interior.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Autometer Gauges Installed.
More Details - Once again we made the call to Wilson Muscle Car and had them cut us some Billet Syborg Emblems.
