      200 MPH Camaro

Jeff stopped by the shop last week and showed us his camaro. It happens to be a land speed record holder with a documented 189 mph. With several runs over 200 mph.
The chassis was built by "Rabbit." It has a full corvette suspension a big block with over 600 hp and a 6 speed.
      Very cool car.

Sorry for the low quality vid.

Im suprised there arent more of these claims being made.

I mean 1400hp Nelson cars with a 6 speed should be in this neighborhood? My concerns would be the bearings - if they can handle those speeds and loads from downforce (created by the obvious custom built splitters and wings that would be needed to keep the car planted).

Side note: I know its ricer to slap a big aluminum wing on your FWD car, but I always kind of wondered how a tastefully done wing would look - like C6R style. The lines on the cars I think would flow right into the wing and would make a nice functional compliment for anyone that drives their cars to these speeds.

Cool Camaro. Obviously the owner has sorted out this car very well.

To be honest, that 69 is slow compared to the Big Red Camaro . Big Red ran 213.4 in the Texas Mile in March 2011, it ran 218.3 in the Mohave Mile in 2012. Big Red has run a top speed of 220 and averaged 197 over 90 miles of the Silver State Classic as far back as 1993.

This Camaro is still awesome. With that said... No Camaro will ever take the place of Big Red in my heart, no matter what.

Cool car. And nothing too extravagant.

Big Red went 234 at the Mojave Magnum in 2012, then saw it finish second at the VARA big bore bash at Willow in November.

      200 MPH Camaro

My bad Tim. I will let you know next time, I didn't think you'd have a ride since you sold your car. Congrats by the way.

The car ran the maxton mile a few years ago. He's probably not the current record holder for anything now. But 10 years ago he was doing 200 mph in a 69 camaro, that's freaking cool. He said Big Red was the inspiration for the car so I'm sure the comparison or mention of Big Red is a compliment.

I took that 245 basically as a joke. Since there is no way to verify that number it's meaningless and no one in their right mind would try that on a public road in the first place. However, according to the SSCC web site, the current public road unlimited speed record for the Silver State Classic is 217.5570.
