      Rob,
I thought you might like this...

You made a Dutch magazine called KR8 ( allthough in English it translates different, the number 8 in my language = "acht" and the word KRacht means power, force or strength)

I made a snapshot with my phone:

I hope you get your motor fixed soon....

WOW, thats cool. We have met Kia, a photgrapher and writer for some magazines over there, I don't know if that was him. That looks like Del Mar. Kyle Newmans 55 made it too. I wish I could read it. lol

Well, we're still on the two step, but we are moving forward. I started the day by making a little bucket for the intake. Thank god for pattern board. It fits pretty good, and everything clears. I made it from .090 alum, mostly 'cause i have a lot of that around, and it's easy to work and weld. Also, I feel that it's thick enough to stop unwanted things from coming in.

The new two piece front cover showed up, .... so, it looks nice, and it came with hardware and an O-ring, but honestly, for the money, you think they would include the seal. Off to the parts store at lunch. It does fit nice, I'll give em that. As we were prepping the intake, it was time for a lesson about LS injectors. The intake says it will use standard LS injectors, and, comes with two different sets of O-rings to help out. The small O-ring fit the injectors, but was loose in the manifold, and the large O-rings fir the manifold, but were too big on the injector. ???? After some phone tag, we get a hold of the Comp/FAST injector/EFI tech guru. In about 45 seconds he says, "Ohh, you have LS-1 style injectors, you need a different O-ring. You'll also need to make your own spacers for the fuel rail mounts, they should be .720" tall" Thats good to know, whats the deal? "Most injectors are now based on the LS-2/7 type, but all that will change again soon, there are better ones just comming out." OK, so we'll have the new O-rings friday. The good news is that the manifold fits, and, as a bonus, I know a little more useless information than yesterday.

Good fortune today. Saturday I fabbed a new air inlet, and finally ducted and mounted the oil cooler. Today was slow and steady, re-wrapping the exhaust and getting that back in, double check everything. Then, we fired it up. Not so good, lots of smoke. After some checking, we found an injector stuck open. That'll do it. Put in a new injector, and swapped out that plug, all good. Runs great. lots of throttle response. Still getting a little some but I'm hoping that will clear up. Looks like RTTC will be a go. Now i have to put it all back together.

More progress. (the pressure is fading) More re-assembly completed tuesday. Including a maticulas cleaning and packing of all eight monster wheel bearings. We also checked the rotor run-out with a dail indicator, very good results, all four come in under .010". The caliper mounts fit great and the higher position yields more clearance around the caliper - lower A-arm at full turn. Up on the lift here is a look under the belly of the beast.

A lot (really a LOT) of credit for the upkeep and renovation goes to our Custom Shop lead Mike Sullivan. His efforts on this has allowed me to continue to focus on a very special, and fast moving project here. I know, it's not a 'pro-touring' car, but it is amazing. What started life as a '48 Jag Saloon, now a full coach-built Kustom. Also, a nice 56 F100 we're finishing up, and everybody needs a blown, pro-street Henry-J.

I spent the morning playing with scales and alignment. If you've seen me at an event, you may have noticed the lack of fear when it comes to making a chassis change. Caster, camber, toe, ride hieght, spring rate, sway bar, shock.... whatever. Usually, after each event, I go back to a baseline. Usualy. In the fall, after the optima OUSCI, we went a little crazy arounfd here. It went RTTC, SEMA, optima, Pleasanton, and Del Mar. No, I didn't re-set the truck in between any of these events, and I didn't take very good notes after Optima. So it took a bit of time to get it to the 'new' baseline for this year. I increased the anti-dive angles of the A-arms, so I'm starting out with a little less shock compression. Also, the splitter may look cool, but it is a pain, so I raised the truck 1/2" all around. We'll see.
Then it was test drive time. You know how when you work on something, investing a lot of time and effort, and in the end there is very little change?? Well, that did not happen. The truck feels all new, and all better. It rev's quicker, it pulls harder, it revs higher, it shifts better, it brakes better, and smoother, less nose dive, takes more rear brake, it's just better. I'm happy, a lot. Now I have to clean it (this does not make me happy) and, I was planning a tuesday night test at A.M.P., but it looks like rain on tuesday. We'll see. RTTC next weekend, should be fun. Then the So Cal challenge Mar 2, then Scottsdale GoodGuys........ It's ON

Any plans to head further east this year? Maybe Lonestar GG? I'd love to see this thing in action.

I am planning on the fall ft worth show. It's tough to go in the spring with the west coast event string. We've got RTTC, So Cal Challenge, Scottsdale, Pleasanton, and Del Mar, five events in six weekends. Plus I have some projects to get finished. Texas makes me think of Babe's Chicken and the Chuckwagon

I could never leave the starting line with a view such as that

The HellBoy was originally going to be called the Reaper, but once we painted it red, well, its not like that was the first change. It started life as a well used 3/4 ton longhorn (9 ft bed), it even had a lumber rack. And nobody could see what I did, even when I explained what I was going to do. - maybe that made things worse.
My last truck, the Silver Bullit 55 F100 was a blast, but times were changing. Goodguys made some rule changes that would put me running up against the big boys (I can't blame Goodguys, they had to). So i wanted to build something that would be competetive, in the shape of a truck. The basic plan was short, wide and light, well, at least it's wide. The wheelbase is 109", not as short as a Camaro or Mustang, and she's a middleweight 3150 lbs. (my goal was 2750) Our first outing in Del Mar was not so good. We built this in just over 90 days, and mostly after hours, until the last week or so, then it was 24/7. On the last day, thursday, Chad Reynolds was coming over. He needed a ride down to Del Mar, "sure, we'll be leaving around 6pm." OK, 8, or 10pm, midnight?, 2 am it is. Still had to go to my house, swap the truck for the motorhome, Wake up the wife (Tina) and drive to Del Mar (appx 2 1/2 hr) That was a long day. Then the problems showed up. Howlin' gears in the quickchange, I mean HOWLIN'. Springs too stiff, brakes not so good, driver too tired to care. But the writing was on the wall, No more Mr. nice guy.

any reason why you chose the taller truck FAST intake over the lower car intake?

haha, it was a bit distracting. I'd like to say that gave Karl the advantage he needed for the win, but he had a similar distraction on his side of the track. Maybe he was a bit faster.

All of the dyno sheets showed more torque in the midrange from the truck intake. And, it is a truck after all.

Well, that was fun. The ASCS crew put on a great show. From the premier party for the new show, "R U Faster than a Redneck", to the last shoot out, it was a blast. I learned a bunch, I'll get to that, and got to hang out with some great people. I burned up more than 30 gallons of fuel - ??? - and got good comparisons on gears, brake pads, and tires. - yes, I changed all of that stuff a few times during the weekend. Thanks again to everyone that took part in this, from the host crew, coarse workers, competiors, and support staff this was a top notch event.
