      Custom Center Console Finish Options

Hi, I am just about finished building a Custom Fiberglass Console for a 67 Dart and would really like to finish it in a way that is similar to the vinyl textured plastic that many of the OEM used (Semi Gloss Black).

What would be the best way to achieve this?

      Thanks,
      Darin

My best advice would be some type of Naugahyde. Do you have a Joanne fabrics or something similar near you that you could check out fabric swatches.

      Thanks for the reply.

I do have Joanne fabrics, but due to the contours of the console I was really trying to find a paint solution.

Not sure it could be covered with vinyl.

I used black wrinkle paint for the console to match the hard plastic of the dash closely...

I had mine dipped in a carbon fiber material, same as the material that used on the golf carts ex. realtree, turned out awesome with about 6 coats clear on it. Most companys has different patterns to choose from.

Greedreams69: that sounds cool can you post a picture?

I included a picture of the console I am building and need to paint/cover.

      Thanks,
      Darin

Terry that looks great! How hard was it to apply and is it textured or just an optical allusion?

      Thanks,

Looks good. Have you considered an automotive wrap? Leather/vinyl print wraps are available, or you could go with carbon fiber, brushed aluminum or many other finishes.

      Darin,
Looked easy, but I had it applied by a company that wraps cars. Dropped it off on the way to work and picked it up on my way home. I assume it was pretty easy since they did it so quickly. The material is actually textured - it really does look like leather, but it's thin enough that it still shows all the countours of the center console. The wrap is applied directly to the fiberglass (no padding). I'm very happy with the look, but don't know how durable it will be.

I'm installing an alarm, power window switches and a power lock switch in the console, so it's taking me a while to get the wiring all done. But, we should have it all done by this weekend. I'll post a pic when it's all in.

Where did you get this done? Looks like near Houston if you are in Cypress... This is exactly what I am after. Do you have pictures of the console pre-wrap?

      Thanks,
      Chris

      Chris,
I used Wrap It USA (www.wrapitusa.com). They're located on the west side of Houston on beltway 8, just south of 290 (5829 West Sam Houston Pkwy N).

The console is from Modern Classic Interiors (http://www.modernclassicsinteriors.com/).
