Too much attention?

Now that I have been driving Dust Off on the street one thing I have noticed is that the it gets a LOT of attention from other drivers. For example, If I go past a car setting at an intersection they will turn in behind me and speed to catch up and then just drive beside me or behind me looking at the car. This past weekend I pulled up behind a new Camaro at a traffic light and drive looked in his rear view and pulled over so I could go past once the light turned green then he pulled in behind and followed me for several miles so he and is buddies could look. I had a guy driving a semi-truck rush to catch me out on the highway and when he caught up he just drove in the other lane about a car length behind looking at the car. Usually they also give a thumbs up but some yell "Nice Car". I find myself experiencing some embarrasment at all this attention since I'm basically a private person. I have even found myself thinking about not going for a drive because of the attention. To my knowlege Dust Off is the first true Pro-Touring car in my area and it seems people can't stare enough. Do you all have the same experience with people staring at your car while you are out driving?

I know what you mean. I had the same feelings when I used to drive around in the Vette that I used have. I didn't want to think that people would look at me and think "*****", "show off", etc. But, after a while I came to the realization that I had built it for me and for my own pleasure and that if people didn't like it, fealt jeleous, etc. then it was there problem, not mine.

I do the same sometimes though (speed up to catch a better view of a muscle car, hot rod, etc.) it annoys the wifey sometimes, but I'm definitely a car guy and don't get to see them enough! Great job on building such a nice car!

Too much attention? Happens alot, I drive my car daily and I will say that just as often, there is a car hanging just off the quarter panel of my 68 with some 40 something staring at my car, always gotta watch the lane changes and someone always says something at the gas stations

The worst part I hate is when people honk at you. I don't know if it happens where you live but I can't drive my hot rod without everyone honking. Drives me insane. I constantly think I am about to get t-boned or something.

When I drive the '69 Camaro , a lot of people look at it , and tell me that it's cool (that I drive it) .
Sometimes I have to stop what I'm doing (at gas stations and such) to have a 2 minute conversation with somebody about the car .( I'd rather get going down the road , but I don't want to be rude or unfriendly) .
So , I act friendly , and tell them about the pro-touring movement and invite them to come to some events and get a ride-along with one of us ..
It's funny , when I drive the Z06 , I don't get nearly as much attention . (And the Z06 is a much faster and better driving car ..)
People seem to like the old musclecars.

The honking drives me crazy. Wait til they are staring at your car and start coming into your lane.....that's always awesome.

I totaly agree im okay with people looking and the thums up, but some people wanna have long conversations at gas stations or even worst at a red light, i found that keeping ur windows up or the music loud or wear sunglasses or a light tint on your windows are all good ways for some extra privacy, and eventualy i got over it and ignore everone LOL,

My wife get's a kick out people staring when she drives her Camaro. Something about a chick driving a loud, big block, manual gear box muscle car that get's people's attention...

refer to the "dumb things people say about your ride thread" and that will pretty much sum up how I feel..

if they just throw up the thumbs up or says nice car... cool.. im good with that..

but at the end of the day I built this for me and not any other spectator...






the love does feel good though.. better than any Lambo ive ever been in.

Believe it or not, my wagon gets about double the "attention" that the Camaro gets! LOL.
Could be that my chic drives it a TON also, heck she'll pick it over the Escalade 8 out of 10 times! LOL

I get the same thing when I'm driving my '77 Vega, and I haven't done anything to it other than drive it.
I get a large variety of responses. Thumbs up, ear to ear grins, and looks of bewilderment from the young kids (as in "WTF is that?")LOL.

i like the people that come up and ask "how much you want?" i get that one alot, usually the 24 to 32 y/o don't seem to get the old car thing, i usually see them in the Hondas and what not.

Hahahaha. I have a sbf Pinto and I can drive it around Lafayette and not a sole with notice it. I pull up next to people and they just roll their windows up. It's kind of funny because I used to get a lot of attention in it when I lived in Edmonton.

I usually have this problem when I'm not even in my car. I could be walking around in the Mall and suddenly notice that there is a group of people following me taking pictures with their cell phones. I often have people name their children after me too...people I don't even know. It's really awkward. Not a day goes by when I'm not asked to be someone's Godfather, marriage proposals, or some guy offering up his amazingly hot daughter so my superior genes can be passed down to his grandchildren. It's really getting tiresome...I don't know what to do.

Just yesterday I got a letter in the mail; some town in South Dakota is naming a Grade School after me.

.......I've never even been to South Dakota.
