      Car Related Website Activity??

The post activity and discussions at many of the car sites I frequent appears to me to down significantly. This is on all websites not just this one.

Is it just me or is the traffic (# of threads posted) down here in number also on PT.com?

I have received many requests to joint Facebook discussions/groups. Based upon what I have seen many of the discussions that were previously on the website for that particular car OR car activity have gone over to a Facebook discussion group that has been created.

Is this the way the web is moving in the future to social media for ALL our now website activities and discussions?

I am not a fan of Facebook or any other social media site since I have crap to do rather than Facebook all day.

Am I going to left out in cold with old technology and little to no activity car websites????

I can't stand facebook, such a bad layout. I've noticed also that it seems posts are way down here.

I have noticed a lot of sites being pretty quiet too. I dont have a facebook account and I dont want one either!
I am not useless, I can still be used as a bad example!

Everything's fine. It always starts to get quiet this time of year as people get out and about. As for Facebook it's an instant personal content generator. It's like web design software that anyone can use. That's a good thing.

Facebook can sukk it. I closed my account two years ago and haven't missed a day of it. If people want to blog to the world about where they are, what they do, what they buy, what they watch, what they.......then Facebook is the perfect medium. While it might be fun for social topics, this site will never be replaced because of its wealth of technical information. This site also doesn't track your every action...LOL

I'd have to pass on forums if they moved to Facebook only, honestly.

I have noticed a change over the last year not just now in the present. I have seen activity on numerous sites drop noticeably over the last year.

The interest in the cars still seems to be there just not the passion and discussion!

I guess if everybody is broke they just do not have anything new to talk about on their car since nothing has changed.

I use Facebook to cut up with my non-car-friends about non-car-related stuff .
But , a lot of my car friends are on there too , so I see people in both places ..

Not to get off topic, but who in the Hell would use .22 on a zombie?

ive been thinking the same thing over the past few months. never noticed it before. chevelles.com in the pt section used to have a half page of new topics/replies a day. now its two or three. normal traffic is now more like what weekend traffic used to be.

I'm not sure FaceBook is stealing the P-T members, but it's probably wasting a lot of our time we could be working on our cars.

This site is where the tech is, so it won't be replaced by FB. Many members are probably working on their rides getting them ready for the summer...instead of posting here.

I don't love facebook but it's a tool and if you use it properly you will get a lot out of it.

Manage your friends properly, your settings, and manage what you see and read and comment on. I really only use it for car related stuff 90% of the time and it doesn't take that long to skim past the crap.

Like a lot of things... it won't work unless you figure out how to use it. You don't have to love it.

The forums do seem to be slower as of late. Assuming this is true, I have a theory that doesn't involve facebook or any kind of replacement site.

I think part of it is that many topics have already been discussed. I don't just mean people asking for help with offset and backspacing in the wheel/tire section, but types of events and news. 3 years ago, a Goodguys autocross thread was kind of a big deal. Now, GG autox's and their corresponding forum coverage are pretty common and the novelty is gone. For a while there, PHR was doing a article for almost each and every GG autox. The same novelty and newness is wearing off for other events too.

But bigger and better events did come. We had RTTH which eventually got expanded into more events and then its own series. Pro-touring even got its own psuedo-super bowl with the OUSCI. We have had people running track days and time attacks. We have had people running big speed events like Silver State, hill climbs, and standing miles. And of course, we've had lots of people get varying levels media coverage. I've never seen a site so utterly littered with magazine cars.

The hobby is growing and healthy, with people doing more and more. But also, I'd say the steady growth and impressive events are making us harder to impress, at least in terms of online forum discussion. I'd like to think that people are spending more time getting their car out to an event.

As for other car sites with stable audiences, I think they too kind of run out of topics that are both new and exciting. A thriving car forum that I had been on back in '06 has all but died with literally only 2-5 semi-active posters. Other big forums are kept alive in large part by the newbies asking the same old questions.

But back to PT.com. Another factor, for me, is that a lot of people who I used to only talk to on PT.com I can now expect to see on a regular or somewhat regular basis, so the need for online contact is diminished.

Hmmm.. I have not noticed a change downward. My server reports have shown a steady increase for years. Maybe over the weekend I will check my last few years reports and compare them to one another.

I'm guilty of goofing off on Facebook too much ..
