      Interest In Custom Kick Panels?

How much interest is there in custom kick panels? I am debating on doing them for my '72 right now. The approach I am going to take will allow for easy reproduction. If there is enough interest in 1st gens, I can do that as well...drop me a line or respond to this thread if you would be interested in custom kick panels. I will be modeling my '72s in the next week or two (as soon as I can find time). You will be able to see a 3D model of it and make comments as to what you would specifically like.

I can't find kick panels for my '68 Camaro that hold a 6.5" speaker. I thought they would be easy enough to find, but... What kind of price/time/materials?

I would love some for my 69'. They are non-existant in the aftermarket industry. Only 67-68 that hold 4x6's. I would like 6 1/2's. From the threads that I have seen, there is a huge want for these. Keep us posted!

I have seen some for the A-bodys but heard they are not well made. Kicks too thin and they will sound like crap. Kicks are a good idea for a muscle car because it is a panel and can be switched out easily. Plus they are a good placement for speakers for good sound.

      Indeed

Yah, my plan was to include a little heavier thickness from the onset and also some gussetry surrounding the speaker mounting surface to keep the motion of the cone from translating to the panel.

Material? Fiberglass. I am open to suggestions but in the end this will likely be the most versatile material.

Time frame? Oh boy....thats the tough one. I wouldn't want to sell someone a low quality part. And just knowing how these things go, I am probably going to do a couple of sets and learn a few things the hard way. I won't have time to bite into this until early August, I could have finished products by early October providing the guy with the 5 axis mill isn't swamped.

Cost? I will get back to you on that one. Machine time on a 5-axis mill is probably going to run somewhere in the $80 / hr, including all the toolpath programming. Soooo.....let's see how complex the model comes out first before I jump the gun on a cost. I will be shooting for quality of the part before price though, so don't expect any exceptional deal.

Oh and by the way, the first run of panels will accept 6.5" speakers. I will have to get a hold of several different manufactuers and see if I can set it up quasi-universal.

I would be interrested unless I end up making my own before you get these produced. 6.5" for sure.

Yeah, I would be interested in some ick pannels for a 69 as well. Timing is not much of an issue being I have at least a year left any way.

another vote for second gen, just remember a lot of kick panells need to be bent and stretched and played with to get them in. If you make them ridgid, or fiberglass they will probably crack during installation

Coming soon will be door panles, side panels and kick panels with speaker pods. however, kick panels will force eliminating the e brake for a proper angle Component set up. I am hoping by Christmas we have something
